Excellent analysis from Africa Centre for Energy Policy - certain worth reading for anyone interested in #ghana and African energy sector reforms and related practical recommendations. Key quote: "Despite substantial investments in power distribution infrastructure, technical and commercial losses in Ghana’s power sector have risen from 24% to about 30% between 2014 and 2021. This occurrence underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reforms and improved management practices in power distribution." In other words: Major reforms have already taken place, but lots of work remains; not least in the continent-wide challenge area of losses. This is not just about making public utilities viable; it's as much about efficient energy use and #climatechange Marcus Courage Wilfred (Wilf) Mwamba Dave Beer Acha Leke

The answere may be to open traditionally government roles to private participants, I think we need to acknowledge that the current model is not working. In the past it has worked for the telecom sector which has seen massive market penetration, consider what it might do for electricity? We are seeing minigrids with pay-as-you go models, borrowing from the likes of telecoms and think we'll see more progress in this space.
