Using multicore fibre cables and massive MIMO signal processing, NTT has achieved stable signal transmission at rates of up to 455 Tbit/s in a field test with hardsh simulated environmental effects. In his article following the announcement, Nick Flaherty from EE News Europe shaed that while in traditional optical network architecture, data flows down a single core, multiple cores can transmit signals in parallel, increasing the number of channels and capacity. This technology is expected to be a fundamental technology for realizing future terrestrial optical transmission systems with transmission capacity more than 50 times that of conventional systems.
