As the Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability Program launches the future of vertical lift, it is imperative the platform provides an open systems architecture to support a diverse set of missions and country specific needs while facilitating third party introduction of new capabilities and efficient maintenance and sustainment. Next generation platforms must provide the flexibility to evolve with the future battle space and rapidly integrate new technology. In collaboration with NATO support and procurement Agency, Lockheed Martin evaluated open systems architecture concepts that are necessary to meet and GRC objectives. Transitioning to a holistic open systems architecture approach, integrating both business strategy and technical design is essential to meet NGOC goals. A digital engineering ecosystem establishes an open systems architecture, collaborative environment and provides an authoritative source of truth for cost effective life cycle sustainment. Model based systems engineering and digital twins leverage modern tool sets to enable interoperability and teamwork across technologies, domains, and partner nations. And adaptable open systems architecture requires established key elements and interfaces. Leverages open standards and interconnects across a digital backbone. Utilizing a modular architecture coupled with the baseline ANGRC configuration creates a flexible common platform able to be adapted to partner nations needs supporting their individual missions. Early definition of key elements and interfaces through evaluation of NGOC domains forms the Open Architecture Foundation. Key elements are modular and portable components enabling capability reuse across the Ngoc Enterprise. Key interfaces align to civil and military open standards along with the appropriate data rights. Provide the flexibility and interoperability required to seamlessly integrate multi vendor products, Foster innovation and support technology refresh by eliminating vendor dependencies. Incorporating both commercial and government technologies within a digital backbone provides an integrating environment for evolution, affordable enhancements and scalable growth, all essential for modern platforms to adapt to an ever changing threat scenario. True proof of meeting open systems objectives and openness at each layer of the architecture is critical. Recurring open systems verification events ensure alignment with NGOC objectives and confirm the ability of independent evolution of the platform throughout its life cycle. Technology and innovation are evolving faster than ever before, and systems need to be versatile and adaptable from the ground up, with flexibility, affordability, and timeliness at the forefront of every critical decision.
