Convened in October 2023, the CNAS Defense Tech Task Force sought to address how the Department of Defense can best deliver relevant, urgent capabilities to U.S. warfighters at speed and scale from traditional and nontraditional sources using existing authorities, policies, and procedures. In a new report, the authors develop seven essential factors to enable defense innovation, and offer targeted policy recommendations, stressing that faster innovation, strategic risk-taking, and talent development are essential for delivering new capabilities.
