Now.Town ’s Post

Construction is nearly complete on the 4th/1st Street Complete Street, which leads west from the United Riverside neighborhood in the City of Fort Worth. The project includes a focus on bicycle safety, with new bike lanes between I-35W and Haltom Rd, where an off-street path connects into Gateway Park. The project includes three “Dutch-Style” intersections, which are designed to be safer for cyclists and pedestrians by providing dedicated crossings, better visibility and refuge islands at the corners. Each intersection also includes bicycle light heads, which will detect cyclists and give the signal priority. This project is the first in the region to utilize these lights. It's interesting (whether you choose to see it positively or perhaps disappointingly) the amount in physical infrastructure needed to produce what ultimately amounts to "awareness" -- to avoid confusion, effort applauded.
