Unpacking the PIANC Australia & New Zealand Conference. This time last week representatives from TasPorts attended the biennial forum. Together with ~180 engineers, planners, scientists and researchers the conference consisted of four parallel streams of short presentations, each focusing on the challenges and opportunities facing ports in a changing world. Key points from the discussions included: 🛥️ Climate change impacts in the Asia Pacific region 🛥️ Sustainable decision making addressing the complexities of operating redundant port facilities 🛥️ Infrastructure redesign and how ports can adapt existing infrastructure to withstand climate change 🛥️ Regional collaboration with an emphasis on international collaboration to address the unique challenges faced by numerous ports 🛥️ Safe navigation, sharing insights on port procedures for navigating infrastructure safely 🛥️ Four P's of challenges; politics, people, planet and productivity 🛥️ Workforce engagement and the challenges of attracting and retaining a skilled workforce The conference provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences and fostering collaboration among port authorities and industry professionals worldwide. #maritime #pacific #port #australia #collaboration #climatechange #workforce

The body must hate the disease, just as the disease must hate the body, they must keep fighting each other, they must not recognise the other's right to exist, yet both will exist. That's Nature. Immunity against disease is the body's duty, but, for the disease, immunity is a violation of its right to destroy the body. Destruction is the instinct of disease. Can the body convince the disease to give up its instinct? Is civilisation the ability to overcome instinct? Can disease transform itself into the body through the process of civilisation? Or is the body mistaken in its belief that the disease is also body except it is slightly corrupted? What is the test to differentiate between a body and disease? Having the appearance of a body is not the sole criteria. Clearly the nature of beliefs, the intensity with which those beliefs are held, their unchangeability, the intensity with which those beliefs are acted upon, need to be examined in order to ascertain whether its a body or a disease, and if its a body, is the extent to which it is corrupted even repair worthy. If nothing else, empathy among men towards children and women must be the minimum criteria to not qualify as a disease. It is the minimum sign of intelligence for a body for it is only through children and women that men can continue to exist indefinitely, conquering time, the final frontier.
