Have you ever felt like your job title didn't match your responsibilities? 👀 Well, I've recently noticed a concerning trend in the hiring world where companies use misleading job titles to avoid paying employees the salary and benefits they deserve. 😒 For an Instance, some company advertises an "HR Officer" role, but bombards the employee with "HR Manager" tasks without the corresponding compensation or a situation where an employee is hired as a "Marketing Coordinator/Assistant" in a firm that does not have a ''Marketing Manager" and is responsible for leading entire campaigns like a "Marketing Manager". 😕 This practice is dubious and fast becoming common among both big and small firms, and can truly have some serious impact on both the employee and the organization. Definitely, it will get to a point where the employee feels undervalued, overworked, and underpaid. And even though the organization think they are being smart, they would always end up facing high turnover rates, low productivity and missing out on top talents My advice to any organization or recruiter with such practice, would be: Be honest and transparent about job responsibilities and expectations Use accurate job titles that reflect the actual role Pay employees fairly based on their responsibilities, experience and qualifications. Can a Director of Operations role be 'entry level'? Companies hire talent because they see an opportunity for the business to benefit from an additional team member and the skills they bring to the company. A key part of hiring for a role is communicating roles and responsibilities clearly. Without communicating roles and responsibilities the position is doomed to fail. Why would a company pay $36k a year for an entry level operations director position?! 1. They want a director but don't want to pay. 2. They want to pile on responsibilities without really knowing what they need so you call the position a Director position. If you need the skills and value added for your business you need to pay for them and do so within a honest and respectful framework. At the end of the day a talented operations director can create and lead a wave of transformative decisions and strategies that will set the business on a knew growth tragectory.
