Recently, we shared the 2024 holiday special edition of Norstat Quarterly Data: Know Your Christmas! ✨ In the new Know Your Christmas report and European dashboard, you can uncover the Christmas atmosphere among our panel members: 🌲 Did you know that some people wish it could be Christmas all year round? This sentiment is most common in the UK, where 24% of people we asked said they would like that. Meanwhile, for those who think Christmas is a nice and cozy tradition, Lithuania takes the lead, with 57% of respondents agreeing. Our project manager team leaders in Norstat Norway - Silje Hermanrud, Silja Fagerlund Lindsø and Ida Aagaard Ryberg - feel the same. They think it's a nice and cozy tradition at Christmas time - even though they think Christmas time starts 1st of November 😉 Discover more interesting findings in the Know Your Christmas report and European dashboard: https://lnkd.in/e_2NashW

Tomorrow we will be celebrating May Day, which is considered "a holiday for the labour movement". We looked into the origins of this European tradition: In Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Germany and Latvia, May Day is a traditional and old holiday. In most other countries, the day has become a public holiday with the labour movement, which in the late 19th century chose it as its international holiday. In Finland, the old spring festival of Hela, or May Day, was celebrated around the time of May Day, when bonfires, or " hell lights", were lit in fields and other open places. Cattle were often let out to pasture for the first time and driven through fires to prevent illness. The tradition of bonfires among the Germanic peoples continues in Sweden, mainly in Svealand-area. In Finland, the burning of bonfires is nowadays quite rare and concentrated in Swedish-speaking areas of the country. Source: Wikipedia, so please be source-critical.

In Denmark, trust is not just a word, it's a way of life. But what does it mean? How does this look on an everyday basis? For starters—you have probably heard that we leave our sleeping babies in trolleys outside café and restaurants here. What's even more interesting—it’s common to find roadside food stalls where people leave fresh products with a jar for money, trusting others to pay for what they take.🍓🫐 But those are just simple examples. In reality, this deep-rooted trust extends to every aspect of Danish society, making it a place for a safe and stress-free life.❤️ Dive deeper into what trust means for the Danish way of life: https://hubs.ly/Q02HNQM70 📷Kim Wyon

The big question for 2025: how can we bring people together? ✍ The Culture Lab team at Bricolage has been diving headfirst into one of the most important cultural stories of our time: loneliness. 📰 In 2022, Ireland topped the European Quality of Life Survey for Loneliness. But it’s not just an Irish problem.. 🌍 This year saw US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy equate the 'Loneliness Epidemic' to tobacco use, with human connection as the only remedy. 🔍 We spoke to top minds in psychology, community, and cultural strategy and ran focus groups with people aged 20 to 70 across Ireland to get to the heart of loneliness. In the report, we explore how Ireland - historically known for its communal spirit - got here. We also explore how brands - through the simple act of bringing people together - can have a role in this space. 📨 Contact us at culturelab@bricolage.ie or comment below for the full report!
