Ramadan Kareem! If you are a Muslim in the workplace, please don’t be afraid to tell your team you are fasting. I know there may be a sense of awkwardness doing so (especially as someone more junior in the team) but it’s important to let people know your requirements and priorities as this month is important for us! Whilst most people understand what happens during Ramadan (fasting… yes, not even water!), not many understand why we do this from a religious and spiritual perspective. From experience, it is helpful to explain the latter to your colleagues so they have context and can fully appreciate our actions. Everyone is always very grateful and you can teach someone something new in the process. For my non-Muslim colleagues, please don’t be afraid to ask!

🌙 Ramadan Mubarak As Muslims worldwide embark on the month of Ramadan this week, here are some simple ways to be more inclusive. Another tip I recently learnt from Zahraa Dagher is to normalise wishing our friends and colleagues a blessed Ramadan. Just like how we may wish everyone a "Merry Christmas" We can also recognise Ramadan and greet our colleagues and friends. We can say: 🌙 “Ramadan Mubarak”, which means "Blessed Ramadan" 🌙 “Ramadan Kareem”, which means "Generous Ramadan". Being mindful and intentionally inclusive of diverse employees observing Ramadan is key to our striving towards a more inclusive workplace. What other tips can you share? —- ♻️If this was useful, do reshare it ---- #diversityandinclusion #ramadan2024

At Shalaby Enterprises the aim is clear: to exceed the expectations of the Arab region before turning 30. Leading multiple industries and earning international recognition is not an end in itself, but a commitment to setting new standards for what can be achieved.

As Ramadan approaches... My family celebrates all holidays, we are multicultural. Ramadan and Eid are a part of our celebrations. - If your colleague(s) are observing Ramadan, please ask questions if you would like to learn more - always respectfully. - Everyone is different and even practicing Muslims may approach Ramadan differently. (some may fast daily, others sporadically, and some not at all) - When greeting at the beginning of Ramadan: Ramadan Mubarak (Have a blessed Ramadan) or Ramadan Kareem ( May Ramadan be generous to you) - After sunset, the breaking of the fast (iftar) takes place - friends and family are often present. - We often assume what is "normal" for us is "normal" for all - Awareness is key #interculturalcompetence #interculturalcommunication #awarenessmatters #inclusionmatters #internationalbusiness Image: https://lnkd.in/dDZmhDeP

Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim Colleagues everywhere! I wish you all a peaceful and successful Ramadan. For colleagues who whish to be considerate and supportive to people who observe it, here’s some quick guidance I saw today which I'd like to share :- - Consider that people may feel tired / headachey and dehydrated especially towards the end of the day - Your colleagues may need to adjust their schedule so they can pray more often, so please be aware and respectful when adapting schedules. Or look towards flexible working to make life easier. - Avoid scheduling meetings at times when people may need to eat. But equally, if you need to eat in a meeting, don’t make a big deal about doing so in front of your fasting colleagues as this can be very awkward - Please be mindful of team snacks or events you may be hosting too - Be considerate of annual leave requests - If you know someone is fasting, ask about the experience, don’t make assumptions. This includes assumptions that it is hard or awful – Ramadan is the holiest time and is therefore very special - Not all Muslims fast. Don’t ask why someone isn’t fasting, the answer might be very personal
Happy Ramadan to all our staff and clients who are celebrating the start of fasting. #ramadan2024
