🎉 At the #EU's 🇪🇺 #primarycare Joint Action (Transfer of best praCtices In pRimary CarE Joint Action – CIRCE-JA), we had the pleasure to come together and to look back to our first year of work. The meeting took place in Warsaw (21-22/03/2024) and we are grateful to our amazing hosts 🇵🇱 at the NFZ (Polish National Health Fund), and particularly Katarzyna Wiktorzak, for their hospitality and a few amazing days! 80 participants from 48 entities in 14 countries and our officers from European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) came together over this two-day meeting. The agenda covered all CIRCE-JA Work Packages describing the activities carried out during the first year and updates. We had the opportunity to celebrate reaching all milestones and submitting high-quality deliverables always on time. Also to have all 42 implementation sites in 12 countries, and providing care to 28 million people, having provided their initial implementation plans and list of activities to be carried out during the second year of CIRCE-JA.   In addition, methodology for the transferring process and for the needs assessment, together with the evaluation plan and dissemination plan have been successfully developed. Sustainability and capacity-building activities are successfully progressing too. A great new article in Børsen yesterday! Our CEO, Betina Lindhard Langemark, is featured in in article that focuses on the challenges that face SME's in Denmark, especially the challenges that the SME's that innovate the health care sector face. The article points at two crucial changes that are necessary for turning the crisis in the health care sector into not just a well-functioning sector but also to be able to create export successes: 1. The incentive structure is often almost counter productive to the implementation of new technology. The ability and will to seek new ways should be celebrated instead of being subject to suspicion. 2. There needs to be earmarked investments in new technology. Even though new technology often reduces the time and resources needed, it should never be seen as a way to save away positions for nurses and doctors. We're doing everything we can to innovatively improve patient safety and alleviate the constantly increasing pressure on the nurses, but we need less bureaucracy and better collaboration to deliver the solutions the patients need and deserve. Valuable insights into the process quality of US #hospitals Impressive willingness to change and technological advancement During my participation at the HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition, I was able to experience first-hand how hospitals in the USA use digital solutions and process optimization to improve the quality of care. I was particularly impressed by the willingness to actively embrace change and implement new technologies. Digital Health: Pragmatic approach and lived interprofessionalism The USA is characterized by a pragmatic approach to the introduction of Digital Health. Instead of theorizing for a long time, pilot projects are launched and the results are implemented in practice. The lived interprofessionalism, in which all professional groups work together on an equal footing, is also remarkable. Clean processes and consistent decision-making Another important factor for the high process quality in US hospitals is the focus on clean processes and consistent decision-making. Decisions are made on the basis of data and facts and are consistently implemented. Learning from the USA: Optimizing process quality in German hospitals The insights I gained have shown me that German hospitals can learn a lot from the practice in the USA. The following points are particularly relevant: 👉 Willingness to change: Actively shape the transformation process and not wait for political decisions. 👉 Use technology: Use digital solutions to optimize processes and improve the quality of care. 👉 Promote interprofessionalism: Ensure cooperation between all professional groups on an equal footing. 👉 Establish clean processes: Create clear structures and responsibilities. 👉 Make consistent decisions: Make decisions based on data and facts and implement them consistently. Personal reflection As Chair of #HIMSSDACH, I am convinced that HIMSS is an inspiring place that opens up new perspectives and promotes innovation. Last weekend, I had the privilege of participating in the Swiss Patient Forum with EUPATI Switzerland/ Schweiz / Suisse / Svizzera (EUPATI CH), where passionate patient representatives from across the country gathered to explore a vital topic: How to Include Patients Better in Healthcare. Here are my key takeaways from this insightful event: 1️⃣ Importance of Patient Inclusion: It's evident that patient inclusion is a priority for various stakeholders, including governmental healthcare institutions, research bodies, patient organizations, and industry leaders. However, the lack of established guidelines and processes means we still have work to do to foster systematic inclusion. 2️⃣ Early Involvement & Partnership: Patients desire to be engaged early in healthcare processes, contributing with a relevant voice at a partnership level. Their insights are crucial to shaping effective healthcare strategies that truly address patient needs. 3️⃣ Recognizing Patient Expertise: It's time for us to view patients as experts in their own right, not merely as laymen. This recognition should extend to appropriate remuneration for their contributions, underscoring the value they bring to the table. Sharing my views on key Plenary Session featuring Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP speech RCGP Annual Conference and Exhibition #rcgpac Firstly proud to see Sheffield GP and friend Andy Hilton, sharing the stage, and one of the 4 GPs selected to illustrate innovative and embitious work already happening in primary care. They illustrated how much GPs care about the responsibilities they have, and above all want to create health creating opportunities for all. But to focus on Wes. So often you listen to politicians and they say nothing really. They professionally navigate tricky issues, giving answers they think most popular with their audience. At least that's what we've been used to lately. It was refreshing to feel like we were listening to someone who is prepared to acknowledge and take on the tough issues ahead of us in the NHS. Key take homes for me, he recognises: -Primary Care offers the best value in the NHS, and its savvy to protect teams and invest here. - Benefits of working in communities (neighbourhoods) and of horizontal integration between specialists and generalist teams, with equal parity. -Needing transparent and inclusive decision making about trade offs between investing in health services, and tackling wider determinants of health. -He is committed to listening, and having robust debate.....his previous swipe at partnership model was a deliberate provocation to stimulate engagement around contentious issues. I felt optimistic. He spoke like he deeply understands the nuances of our health challenges. We were reminded he spent much of his pre MP life in leadership roles in voluntary sector. Only one backward reference to Tory legacy, much more forward looking to how we collaborate as teams to properly build for the longterm. This feels to me like brave leadership, with moral intent.
