Aaannnddd the pastie whites are out!! I rarely wear shorts, I get cold too easily! (Sometimes you gotta do what you don’t wanna do - get uncomfortable to get comfortable!) But today is HOT! 🥵 I’m taking a late 1/2hr lunch break, coz that’s all I get, outside! Why not! So I’m sitting here with my Kangen water thinking about content. What do you want to see? I think this Head & Shoulders ad is incredible, and likely wildly effective, and I probably should've written something about it ages ago. But it just came on during the football, so here goes: - It's empathetic, built around the very neat insight that "having" dandruff can't be embarrassing if do something about it. Therefore, the product isn't "for people with dandruff", because as soon as you use it, that's not you. - It's entertaining, leaning into cinema tropes in a silly way that earns and keeps attention. - It's memorable, with a core line that contains the main product keyword as a recall trigger. - It ends with a catchy AF musical number that further embeds the core line and doesn't overstay its welcome. Not the coolest category, not the most earth-shattering creative, but utterly brilliant. And if I had dandruff (I don't...), I know what product would come to mind next time it irritated me. #advertising #insight #strategy #effectiveness

I’m just about repulsed by all the regurgitated tripe posted online nowadays. There’s a good chance you feel the same. You scroll your feed and see the same templates posts about “scaling 6 figure agencies” and “$10k monthly retainers”. Everyone with a keyboard is preaching “tell your STORY!” and it’s some half-baked anecdote about a bad day at work. You think “well, everyone is posting like this so it MUST be working”. But inside, the very fibers of your being are writhing in the pain of being disingenuous as all hell. We’ve all got opinions, and experiences, and perspectives that make us refreshingly unique. But we dumb it down to the lowest common denominator because that’s what we’re all drowning in online. Our stories are important, but the way we tell them needs to be unique to us. When we know who we actually care about talking to, it’s easier to know which parts of our stories we need to tell, and how, to make an actual connection. We can take a step out of the echo chamber, and leave behind the plug and play systems, for what actually FEELS right to us. Because what feels right to us, probably feels right to the people we actually want to speak to anyway. #burnyourbusinesscard
