No veteran I know raised their right hand and took the oath seeking a "thank you for your service." They did it because something deeper called them - a sense of duty, purpose, and commitment to something larger than themselves. Yet today, as we honor Veterans Day, I see too many of our nation's finest warriors struggling with their next mission: finding meaningful civilian employment that leverages their extraordinary leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. The statistics are sobering: - 1 in 3 veterans feel their military skills are underutilized in their civilian jobs - 55% of veterans report difficulty translating their military experience to civilian roles - Nearly half experience some period of unemployment during their first year after service We can do better. We must do better. This Veterans Day, instead of just saying "thank you," let's commit to EMPOWERING our veterans with opportunities that match their capabilities: ✔️ Hire veterans into roles where they can truly lead and make an impact ✔️ Create mentorship programs pairing veterans with industry leaders ✔️ Develop military skills translation programs in your organization ✔️ Establish veteran-specific career development tracks To my fellow veterans: You've already proven your ability to accomplish the impossible. Your service equipped you with invaluable skills that the civilian sector desperately needs. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. To hiring managers and business leaders: You're missing out on incredible talent if you're not actively recruiting and developing veterans.
