THE ONLY MOAT THAT MATTERS Every founder dreams of building an invincible business—unbreakable, untouchable, unstoppable. But here’s the truth: no moat exists at the start. Given enough time and money, almost anything can be copied. Features you launch today might appear in a competitor’s product tomorrow. So what’s the real differentiator? Relentless execution. Take DoorDash. From day one, we faced giants with more money, resources, and attention. There was no obvious moat. Others could have caught on (and many tried). But we had one edge they couldn’t match: relentless execution. Every day, every order—we obsessed over delivering value. We weren’t just delivering food—we were solving problems. Drivers wanted more efficient routes. Customers wanted more accurate ETAs. Restaurants wanted more orders with no operational disruptions. Competitors could copy our app, but they couldn’t match how fast we adapted to challenges. The real moats only became clear at scale. Every order strengthened the network, making it harder for competitors. The complexity and capital required became barriers to entry. These moats emerged because of relentless execution over time. Relentless execution isn’t glamorous, but it wins. Every day, ask yourself: what can I improve that competitors won’t notice until it’s too late? That’s how you build a moat no one can break.

Insights are the foundation that allow us to grasp not only the needs of our target group but also how our product can genuinely add value to their lives. Without insights, we risk making assumptions about what customers want. However, by listening to their behaviors, preferences, and challenges, we can better understand the gaps in the market and position our product as a solution. Whether it's solving a problem, fulfilling a desire, or improving an experience, insights help you discover exactly how your product can meet these needs. Remember, a product’s value is only fully realized when it addresses a real need. And that understanding begins with powerful insights into your market.

Tipping DoorDash Drivers A good tip for a DoorDash driver is 15–20% of the total bill, including taxes and fees. However, you can consider tipping more in certain situations, such as: If the driver is friendly and communicative If you live far away If you have a difficult delivery, like a three-story walk-up If the weather is bad If you're a repeat customer If you want to tip based on distance, volume, or weather You can also consider tipping at least $1 per mile or $5 as a minimum. DoorDash warns customers that orders without a tip may take longer to be delivered. The company says that drivers may prioritize more profitable orders and may not even take a job if they don't see a tip.

Between 2018 and 2021, DoorDash pulled off one of the most ruthless market takeovers in modern business. While Uber Eats and GrubHub were busy fighting each other, DoorDash rewrote the rules. DoorDash didn’t waste time chasing crowded city markets with low-value orders. They went straight for the high-value targets—the suburbs. Bigger families, bigger orders, and much bigger margins. While everyone else was delivering to cramped apartments, DoorDash locked down the wealthiest homes in America. And they didn’t stop there. While their competitors were elbowing each other out for restaurant partnerships in urban areas, DoorDash tapped into an untouched market. They didn’t compete for the same restaurants, instead they signed up the ones that weren’t even delivering yet. This wasn’t just a play for market share but it was expanding the entire pie while the competition was fighting over crumbs. But here’s the killer move: data. DoorDash didn’t just offer delivery, instead they gave restaurants something far more valuable. Insights. What sells best, when to deliver, who’s ordering, how to optimize everything. They became more than a service—they became a partner, arming restaurants with the tools to dominate their local markets. That’s how they took 53% of the market while everyone else is busy playing catch-up. No luck, no noise, it was a cold, calculated strategy executed to perfection. Clear, calculated moves that rewrote the entire playbook.
