We were one of the parties defrauded by the Paulhus family. A family that has shown zero remorse for stealing from everybody who believed in them and their system. But there is another issue here that goes beyond the sins of the founders… By no means is any company involved in selling nearly eighty territories in the last year alone off the hook. Not one person involved in selling us multiple territories has reached out for a conversation. Nor have they reached out to other “valued clients”. You can’t make that much money from selling territories, be owed a ton of money from the franchisor, and then say “we didn’t know” when the company folds overnight. All the while bragging about new office buildouts, upcoming sales meetings in Napa, and touting “responsible franchising” in articles and ads. It turns my stomach. FSO’s may have more credibility if they participated in the risk in small business ownership. They could take some of their fee over time. When something unforeseen happens to the franchisee like this situation, they are right there with the franchisee on losing some money. The responsibilty for this franchise failure does not solely fall on the bankrupt (financially and morally) founders. The whole sales process and everyone in it is also at fault. If you disagree, please let me know how the negative affect of these founders stealing money was felt by the franchisees exclusively. Nobody in the sales process lost a dime. They just deleted Anchored Tiny Homes from their monthly Top 10 Brands List ( ATH was #1 for a few months in a row this year) and kept on trucking down the road selling other systems. If you are in franchise sales as part of a brokerage system or FSO, and you don’t see anything wrong with the status quo, please respond here or be a guest on my podcast to discuss it. I sincerely would like to have an open discussion where we can share our different perspectives. I love franchising, but I believe the tail is wagging the dog when the franchise sales organizations have way too much influence on setting territory fee “standards”, who gets exposure to prospects, their lack of responsibilty to know the financial strength of the systems they are representing, and how their payday is totally misaligned with the term of the business arrangement. Charlie Mungers quote “Show me the incentive and I’ll show you the outcome” applies here. Large commissions in 3 days is NOT in support of the 10 year agreements they are selling. If a brand is selling a lot, there is no concern of long term success when you know you’ll be paid in full long before there’s any trouble. #franchise #franchisesales #responsiblefranchising #ifa #franchisetimes #franchisebusinessrealtalk

Imagine you're in Times Square, the busy center of New York City. You ask a street vendor how long it will take to walk to Bryant Park. He shrugs because he doesn't know how fast you'll walk or how determined you are. But as you start walking away, he calls out, "10 minutes!" In the same way, your success as a franchise owner depends on your passion and effort. You can achieve as much as you want, based on how passionate you are. That's what really matters in the world of franchising. The amount of money you can make with a franchise varies greatly depending on several factors such as the type of business, location, and your own management skills. Some franchise owners make a few thousand dollars a year, while others make millions. However, it's important to note that owning a franchise is not a guarantee of success and requires a significant amount of work and dedication. The story you shared illustrates this point well. Just like the woman who wanted to know how long it would take to walk to Bryant Park, the answer to how much you can make with a franchise depends on your own pace and effort. The vendor couldn't give her an accurate answer until he knew how fast she walked, just like no one can tell you exactly how much you'll make with a franchise until they see how much effort and passion you put into it. In the end, the success of a franchise largely depends on the owner's passion, dedication, and hard work. If you're willing to put in the time and effort, you have the potential to make a significant income from a franchise. #FranchiseEarnings #PassionInBusiness #SuccessJourney

Jonathan Hill talks about Morrow Hill Commercial Real Estate as a special helper for franchise brands. He says the company acts like a hidden real estate team that steps in when a brand doesn’t want to manage its real estate or lacks the funds. Morrow Hill stands out because it only represents tenants, end users, and buyers of commercial spaces. They create Dedicated Client Teams made up of experts, like account directors and transaction managers. Jonathan Hill discusses real estate issues that franchise companies often face, especially the problem of overselling territories without considering the consequences. He shares a story about two franchisees, Sally and Bobby, who buy territories that aren’t officially approved. They both send letters of intent for the Northeast and Northwest parts of their areas, creating a dilemma for the franchise brand. Opening locations for both at the same time isn’t ideal since the company is unsure where the customers will come from. Jonathan emphasizes the need for a system to track sold territories and those still being developed to manage franchise territories effectively.
