Imagine a world where groundbreaking innovations could emerge without hefty expenses. Corporate innovation doesn't always need massive budgets to thrive. Take Google, for instance—one of the most influential tech giants globally. Google implemented a program known as "20% time," where employees are encouraged to dedicate 20% of their work hours to personal projects. This freedom led to the creation of Gmail and AdSense, two of Google's most successful and transformative products. This proves that brilliant ideas can come from giving people the space and time to explore their creativity, rather than relying solely on large financial investments. So, why not offer that creative freedom to your team—and yourself? You might just be on the brink of the next big innovation. Dare to innovate! #Leadership

Engineers make the best founders. I’m laser-focused on investing in technical founders. Why? → Running a business today revolves around leveraging technology to solve problems. Who better understands technology than engineers? → Engineers excel in complex problem-solving. They have a knack for creating tools that customers actually want to use. → They can build MSPs (minimum sellable products) on their own. Constantly improving their creations while attracting top talent to complete the long-term vision. I've invested in six unicorns, many led by technical founders. These technical CEOs have scaled their businesses while holding their technological capabilities on their sleeve. If you're a technical founder with a bold vision for AI or enterprise software, I want to be in your corner. Reach out.

The Past is Holding You Back More Than You Think. #Google faced this twice in yesterday’s #Gemini demo day. Awkward. To be fair, the new #Pixel9 features are useful and exciting—more so than Apple’s first take on AI. But why is Google struggling to keep up with #OpenAI or #Anthropic? It’s not about employees being in the office or “hard work” differences. The Real Issue: Bureaucracy and Tech Dependencies This isn’t just Google’s problem; it’s a challenge for all large companies. We rely on the past to predict the future, use best-case scenarios to model ideas, and existing processes to create new things. But this stifles real innovation. Yes, leveraging strengths can help—like Google tying everything back to Search. But this makes you slow, clumsy, and prone to compromises. Existing tech and teams can hold you back more than they help. Innovation Starts with a Feeling: Real innovation begins with a gut sense of what’s right for a niche audience. This drives boundary-free experimentation, with no prerequisites or dependencies. It’s about thinking in an unlimited, ideal way. Dream Big, Then Science the Hell Out of It: Innovate by dreaming big. Imagine the ideal solution, then bring it to the lab. Develop a prototype that’s as close to your vision as possible, even if impractical. Next, simplify—strip away the good-to-haves while staying true to your vision. There can be no compromise on the core idea. Embed Reality—Carefully: At this point, embed reality. Is there empirical data to support this product? Often, the answer is no. You might patent it for future use or push forward to create demand where none existed. Supply can create demand under the right conditions, but this requires radical changes and new processes. Why Big Companies Struggle with Innovation: You can’t rely on existing processes, which is why big companies struggle beyond incremental improvements. They instinctively protect their “core processes and competencies”—their cash cows. This is what’s holding Google back. It’s what killed Nokia and Kodak. They didn’t fail to innovate; their own teams blocked those trying to do bold things. That’s why transformative innovation often comes from small, well-funded startups rather than big corporations. What Can Big Companies Do? Are big companies doomed to fail at innovating? Not at all: • Teach teams to say “Yes” and justify a “No.” • Accept failures and invest in radical transformations, even if they fail at first. • Build a large portfolio of patents and foster an innovation mindset. • Separate new ideas and businesses from the core at first. Give them full autonomy. • Only integrate new businesses when they’re ready for internal bureaucracy, or risk killing them with a thousand cuts. • More importantly, hire and nurture entrepreneurs who can push beyond what’s “possible.” Anyone can innovate, but few make the effort. Hopefully, Google will bounce back, as #AI should be plural and diverse.

"I want to solve real-world problems, not just build app updates," is something I hear a lot from mid-career tech professionals. But the question is always, "Where do I look beyond big tech?" So I did some research. Here’s what I found: Non-tech industries like healthcare and manufacturing are undergoing massive digital transformations. They need tech talent to make a real difference—reducing waste, improving patient care, and more. Plus, these roles often offer the stability and work-life balance that’s hard to find in traditional tech today. If you’re craving purpose and fulfillment, check out my latest blog on why now is the perfect time to make the move. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g7695vPB
