https://lnkd.in/eV8amYmv Shock in Turkey by the Indian Navy - It cancelled a 2.3-billion-dollar order because of Pakistan! (Translation/Gist: Nickolaos Mavromates) The contract for building warships worth a total of $2.3 billion signed between Turkish company TAIS and India last year has been cancelled. Turkey's Shipping News (Deniz Haber) reports that the Indian Ministry of Defense has cancelled the deal with TAIS which was for five Fleet Support Vessels (FSVs). While it was reported that the state-owned Hindustan Shipyard Limited will carry out the $2.3 billion project on its own and the steel cutting ceremony of the first ship was held at the shipyard in Vishakapatnam with the participation of Indian Defense Minister Giridhar Aramane. The FSVs with a displacement of 45 thousand tons will be used to supply fuel, water, ammunition and stores to ships at sea, allowing the Indian Navy Fleet to operate for long periods of time without returning to port. In this way, the strategic range and mobility of the Indian Navy will be increased. The ships can also be deployed for human evacuation, humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations. However, in August 2023, TAIS signed a contract with the Indian Ministry of Defense and the ships were scheduled to be delivered in 2027. What would TAIS have produced? The TAIS shipyards, established in partnership with Anadolu Shipyard, Sedef Shipyard and Sefine Shipyard, would perform many important tasks in the $2.3 billion project, including the modernization of the shipyards. As part of the project, a technology transfer contract was signed by TAIS member Anadolu Shipyard to HSL. The first ship was scheduled to be delivered 4 years after the order and the others were scheduled to be delivered at intervals of 10-12 months. Turkey is supplying Pakistan... The reason India cancelled the contract with TAIS is that Turkish shipyards are also major suppliers to the country's "historical" enemy, the Pakistani Navy. It is known that the legal department of India's Ministry of Defense has written several times stating that it may be dangerous for Turkish engineers and workers to have access to all the information of the FSV project, which is very important for the country. While Turkey is building four-ship MİLGEM for Pakistan, it is also preparing for joint production of missiles something that cannot be easily digested by India

The USS Boxer and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit are actively engaged in providing critical disaster relief in the Philippines following the devastation caused by Typhoon Krathon. Deployed from San Diego in July, the Boxer is delivering essential supplies, including tarps, shelter kits, and food packets, to remote areas affected by the typhoon. This mission is part of a coordinated effort with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in humanitarian efforts. United States Marine Corps Colonel Sean Dynan, commanding officer of the 15th MEU, stated that the primary focus of their mission is to help the Filipino people recover quickly and safely. This commitment underscores the Navy’s readiness to respond to humanitarian crises and showcases the valuable training that prepares them for such operations. The operation exemplifies the agility and effectiveness of the Boxer and its crew, who are specifically trained for humanitarian assistance in expeditionary environments. The ability to deploy swiftly and provide immediate aid emphasizes the strategic importance of forward-deployed forces in addressing urgent needs during natural disasters. The Boxer is working alongside the I Marine Expeditionary Force’s Marine Rotational Force – Southeast Asia, further enhancing the collaborative response to the crisis. This mission not only highlights the US Navy's capability to deliver timely aid but also reinforces the U.S. commitment to supporting allies in times of need. It’s a powerful reminder of the critical role our military plays in global disaster response and humanitarian assistance. Let’s recognize and support the incredible efforts of our servicemembers as they make a positive impact on communities affected by natural disasters! #Navy #MarineCorps #DisasterRelief #HumanitarianAssistance #USSBoxer #MarineExpeditionaryUnit #TyphoonRelief #MilitarySupport #EmergencyResponse #GlobalAid #NationalSecurity #InternationalCollaboration #MilitaryReadiness

The Real Story of the 757s. Reliability issues have plagued the RNZAF’s 757 fleet for years. The over 30 year-old aircraft are expensive to service and keep reliable. The average age of the Singapore Airlines fleet is six years. The planes are generally only in the headlines when VIPs and trade missions are subjected to disrupted flights, because they’re usually carrying media. But this is just one aspect of their work. The 757s are far more important to wider New Zealand government activities. As the Antarctic science community, civil defence and search and rescue personnel, and military use them – can all testify it’s time they were replaced. The missions they carry out are not like jumping on a regular Jetstar service to get from A to B. Often deployments take place at short notice, when and where airlines aren’t flying. And they are flying into areas that your travel insurer wouldn’t recommend! Recently, they’ve deployed troops for security and stabilisation missions to Tonga, Solomon Islands and East Timor. Normally, they would have been ideal to get people out of the recent riots in New Caledonia. However, the unserviceability of 757s two weeks ago forced us to consider bludging seats off friendly nations. New Zealand had to use multiple C-130s flights which complicated the evacuation process, and this created unnecessary risks. The aircraft form part of the NZ-USA joint logistics pool which supports operations in Antarctica. They can move passengers to Christchurch from the continental United States and Hawaii, and to Antarctica. More robust USAF C-17s, RNZAF and USAF C-130s are typically reserved for cargo wherever possible. During disaster relief operations, the 757s have a speed, range and cargo advantage over the Hercules. Large groups of people can arrive together, with their gear. The Museum Street team have travelled to and from disaster zones. These are chaotic situations where a military crew and aircraft can go, where a charter flight cannot. And what they carry isn’t suitable for commercial aircraft. Open-source information records the key role they play in transporting munitions and other sensitive cargo around the Pacific, often to and from Canada, the United States and Western Australia. These cargoes can’t be moved commercially. Using Hercules with limited payload, multiple refuelling stops, and crew rest challenges make them impractical. The 757 fleet must be replaced. They’re insidious to defence morale, a national embarrassment and unreliable in a crisis. As Prime Minster Luxon said in December last year “We have to call time on this.”
