Today’s #tipstuesday is a reminder that MINGLING is not NETWORKING Here are a few questions to bring to your next networking session👇 - How did you get started in this field? Was this your first career choice? - What’s the most challenging aspect of your role? - What trends do you think are shaping the future of this industry? - How have you approached professional development over the years? - Are there any professional organizations or events you recommend joining or attending? - What opportunities should I seek early in my career to grow? Reminder: Use a conversational style rather than an interview style. To help make it more conversational, please try to relate to how industry professionals answer. Remember to follow up with a thank you note. Want to join a networking event? Why Networking is Key to Graduate Career Success? Starting your career after graduation can feel overwhelming, but one of the best ways to open doors is through networking. Connecting with others in your field can make a big difference when it comes to finding job opportunities and learning from experienced professionals. Here’s why networking is so important: Find Hidden Jobs: Not all job openings are posted online. Sometimes, knowing someone in the industry can help you hear about opportunities before they’re advertised. Get Advice from Mentors: Networking helps you meet people who’ve been where you are and can share helpful advice or give you tips on how to navigate your career. Stay Informed: By talking to others in your industry, you can keep up with trends and new developments that could help you stand out. Build Confidence: Networking helps you get comfortable speaking with professionals, which is a skill that will benefit you in interviews and the workplace. So don’t be shy! Start attending events, joining groups, or even just reaching out to someone new on LinkedIn. It’s all about building relationships that can support you throughout your career journey. #Networking #GraduateCareer #CareerTips #ProfessionalGrowth

Ah, networking—a task we all know we should be doing but often avoid. Maybe it makes us nervous, or we’re skeptical about its benefits, or perhaps we have our own reasons for hesitating. However, when done right, networking can lead to impactful results. Recently, I applied for a position at a local university. This role represents a slight shift in my career path, and, interestingly, I had applied for a similar position at the same school in the past without even securing an interview. But this time, I had a valuable connection—a person I occasionally see at weekend events, who just so happens to be the Associate CIO at this university. Over the years, we’ve built a good rapport, and he generously offered to help in any way he could. And he certainly did. The day after I applied, I received an email inviting me to interview, and now I’m moving on to an in-person interview on campus. So, before you dismiss the power of networking or shy away from sharing your situation with others, just do it. Share your current circumstances with those around you—many people are more willing to help than you might expect. Networking is about both giving and paying it forward when it’s your turn. #networking #jobsearch #hireme #channel #whateveritakes #justone

"Waiting for opportunities to come vs. reaching out and asking" Waiting for opportunities to come knocking can be a passive strategy. While luck can play a role, proactively reaching out and asking for what you want often yields better results. Here's why: Visibility: When you reach out, you put yourself in front of potential employers or collaborators. They may not have an opening now, but they'll remember you when one arises. Networking: Building relationships is key to career advancement. Asking for informational interviews or advice allows you to connect with people in your field, learn from their experiences, and potentially gain valuable insights. Confidence: Taking initiative and putting yourself out there can boost your confidence and self-belief. It shows that you're driven and not afraid to go after what you want. Remember, rejection is a part of the process. Don't let it discourage you. Keep reaching out, building your network, and showcasing your skills and value. You'll be surprised at how many doors can open when you take the initiative. Illustrated by Roberto Ferraro who is always worth a follow :) #motivation #productivity #mindset
