Get to $1MM in Sales for your Fashion Brand with Wholesale! Everyone wants to get into Saks, Anthro and Revolve and other large retailers, but one BIG question to ask is: Can you afford to do wholesale? It’s crucial to understand the margins for wholesaling your line. Typically, you'll need to give wholesale accounts a generous margin for them to make money. At Alala, we use aim for a 60-65% margin when pricing for wholesale and then a 2.25-2.5x markup from wholesale to retail. If you don’t have strong COGS, you might end up losing money going wholesale, especially when factoring in other costs like warehousing and shipping. Get your COGS under control before considering selling to other stores. At the very least, try to break even initially. More insights coming soon! Subscribe to my Substack for weekly newsletters about how to grow your fashion brand to $1MM in sales. #Wholesale101 #Margin #COGS #FashionBusiness

As always, it was a pleasure to contribute my thoughts and insights to Drapers for this article by Sabina Weston. The luxury fashion landscape is complex at the moment with several factors from climate change to interest rates and tax, cost of living crisis to shifts in consumer mindsets all playing a role. As Richard Lim from Retail Economics points out, “Keeping a close eye on costs and looking at better ways to drive efficiency” remain key business strategies; and that sounds simple but it's been difficult for some retailers including those with newer leadership/teams to move quickly enough in order to correct the damage done. Over the years we (Flint Hyde) have made several placements for clients in the luxury and fashion ecommerce spaces and it's been difficult to see some incredible, hard-working talent go through so much challenge. Also for the smaller brands and businesses who have relied on these platforms to promote and sell their goods. It will be interesting to see what's to come for luxury and luxury ecommerce businesses but like most sectors, it's not all doom and gloom - "there are also ways to win – even in this difficult market". #luxury #ecommerce #fashion #talent

In every meeting, I emphasize the critical importance of strong merchandising policies. These are vital keys to success, as effective product price positioning, coupled with a well-accepted design, is a driving force. Before starting any new project, addressing brand width and value perception is essential. Its a case study worth reading for brands and professionals to set their future business goals. #MerchandisingExcellence #BusinessStrategy #NicheBrands #gooddesign #product #productplan
