In reality it doesn’t work like that, especially if we are caring for someone. Sometimes, traditions that your family have had for many years may need to change or stop all together. Letting go of expectations and enjoying the festive season that works for you and the person you care for can make it a lot less stressful. Every family is different, and everyone’s festivities will be different too, especially when you are caring. Remember to be flexible as well. If one thing isn’t working, try something else. Do what works for you, not what others expect! It's always worth having a plan B, and be prepared to change your plans if a particular element isn't working. Do you have a plan B this year? Dogs, cats, horses, and other small animals have especially sensitive hearing, which makes these noises not only distressing but, in some cases, physically uncomfortable. Here are some practical tips to keep your pets safe and comfortable: For Dogs 🐶 Keep them indoors in a quiet, secure space. Close windows to muffle sounds, and block dog flaps to prevent panicked escapes. During displays, try calming distractions like treats, toys, and gentle music. Pheromone diffusers from your vet can also help ease their anxiety. For Cats 🐱 Keep cats safely indoors, providing cozy hiding spots where they feel secure. Microchipping is also recommended in case they manage to slip out, offering a safety net for finding them. For Horses 🐴 If local firework events are scheduled, contact organizers to request that fireworks be set off away from stables. Staying with your horse can offer comfort, and additional guidance is available from equine organizations like the British Horse Society.
