"Moreover, the enforcement guidance clarifies that while compliance is crucial, surveyors will also evaluate if staffing levels are adequate to meet residents’ actual needs. Facilities found in substantial compliance with the assessment requirements but failing to provide adequate care due to staffing shortages may be cited for noncompliance and required to implement corrective measures." Nursing homes are required to update their facility assessments by August 8, which is about six weeks away. If you need support, give our Consulting team a call. We've successfully completed facility assessments for several years now, and would be happy to help your building remain compliant, especially with the updated regulations going into effect quickly: https://lnkd.in/gV9ZzbE4 https://lnkd.in/gkNnGK7x #staffingmandate #facilityassessment #skillednursing #healthcareconsulting

Far too often we hear about aggression and violence against nurses and clinical staff in our hospitals. Nursing is already a challenging profession, dedicated to caring for those in need. Yet, the increasing threats to the safety and wellbeing of our nursing workforce impacts me personally. As a nurse who spent many years doing outreach in the community at all hours of the day and night to provide care to our hard to reach and service priority populations, I know firsthand the safety risks we face. Despite having work health safety processes in place to notify someone if something went wrong or if we were in danger, the reality was there were moments when I could have been harmed or not returned home safe without anyone knowing until it was too late, because I lacked a protection mechanism. That is why it’s encouraging to see hospitals across the country taking active steps to enhance staff safety with solutions that provide automatic alerts to get assistance straight away in duress situations. Maitland Hospital in NSW has implemented our Reach mobile duress safety solution for its entire workforce; ensuring that not just nurses, but all staff are protected as much as possible. We are proud to have partnered with them in this crucial effort to provide immediate access to protection. I urge more clinical leaders to follow the example of Maitland Hospital and other health systems who have embarked on this path. Let’s partner up to safeguard the lives of every nurse, every day. https://lnkd.in/gAawD8wN #staffsafety #duress #savinglives #protection #digitalhealth

B.C. becomes the first Canadian province to implement minimum nurse-patient ratio policy - a milestone reached from planning, collaboration and thought leadership of health care leaders, organizations and key representations. According to CIHI and Statistics Canada, nurses in Canada are experiencing burnout and challenging work conditions due to workload demands and increasing patients, to name a few, thus "The result is a cycle of overwork and burnout, contributing to the worsening nursing shortage. The numbers speak for themselves: There’s an increasing number of unfilled nursing positions in B.C., with Statistics Canada recently reporting over 5,000 nurse job vacancies in the province. That’s a stark jump from the 1,615 vacancies seen at the end of 2018." #HealthcareLeadership #NursingCrisis #BurnoutPrevention #NurseRetention #HealthcareWorkforce #NursingCare #PatientSafety
