TURNING OLD WALLS INTO MODERN WORKSPACES | On the 15th floor of 401 West Georgia, a 39-year-old building in downtown Vancouver, Lindsay Kenney LLP envisioned a workspace that mirrors their success while meeting the specific demands of a modern legal practice. Their newly refurbished 10,000 ft² space is as sophisticated as it is functional, balancing privacy and collaboration. Private offices and soundproofed meeting rooms cater to focused work and confidential conversations, while open-plan areas and a breakout space keep the energy flowing. And with individually adjustable temperature controls, comfort is never compromised. “Details create the big picture.” Creating a design that was sympathetic to the period features of the Grade II listed building was paramount with our project working with Raymond James, a rapidly growing wealth management firm. With the building being situated within the Guildhall Conservation area, it was vital that special consideration was made to design to the heritage status of the building. It was important that Raymond James’s new office respected and highlighted the building's architectural history and this was our guiding principle. Just some of the ways we did this.. - Reimagining Meeting Spaces: We introduced feature wall panelling that echoed the history of the original period details - Crittal glazing complemented the meeting space with a sleek, modern edge, letting light into the rest of the building. - Preserving Windows: The building’s original Juliet windows were preserved and refurbished to ensure the building's heritage remained intact. This project stands as a testament to the fact that respecting history does not mean forgoing modernity, but the two can work together, as long as it is carried out sympathetically and thoughtfully. We are delighted with the end result of this 2200 sq.ft space in the heart of the city. Our modernization of this call center shows how repurposing spaces can unlock incredible potential. Two former concrete vaults were transformed into a sleek conference room and private phone booths - keeping that vintage flair alive. But the real showstoppers? Those iconic vault doors and repurposed security boxes, now serving as media consoles and bar seating in the break room. With bold diagonal walls creating departments and that extra dash of personality, this place is buzzing with energy. We don't just design workspaces - we craft experiences that spark creativity and embrace your company's unique culture. Breathing new life into sites is our calling! Let's discuss how we can do the same for you! #OfficeDesign #workplacedesign #officebranding #architecture #interiordesign #commercialarchitecture #a2studioad #womeninarchitecture #womenininteriordesign #workplacedesign #wbenc #aia #womanownedbusiness #culture #innovation #engagement #collaboration

One of the key aspects of a great room is its ability to foster socializing. Whether it's hosting lively gatherings, intimate conversations, or family game nights, the open layout encourages interaction among occupants, creating bonds and memories that enrich the fabric of family life. Great rooms often feature high ceilings, expansive floor space, and open layouts, creating a sense of spaciousness and connectivity. They are designed to facilitate socializing, entertaining, and relaxation, making them a central hub of activity within a home. . . . #blackstoneconstruction #blackstone #birminghamal #birmingham #alabama #commericalconstruction #commerical #construction #residentialconstruction #residential #architecture #blackstonebuilt #constructionindustry #buildingdesign #contractors #constructionwork #propertydevelopment #constructionsite #renovation #constructionlife #buildingsolutions #constructionmanagement

What do we do with a building that has become functionally obsolete? Ideally we remodel, renovate, or restore, and not abandon or demolish. Adaptive reuse involves preserving and repurposing an existing building for a function it was not originally designed for. This short video clip shows a clever example of how a decades-old industrial building in Chicago’s west loop was converted to a modern office building while preserving the structure, replacing the common brick facade with new face brick, and reusing the common brick on the interiors. I’d love to see more work like this on our existing building stock. #Masonry #Sustainability #Resilience #AdaptiveReuse

When looking at adaptive reuse, the future pathways of our urban spaces must not only embrace and incorporate the coming of advanced new materials; the ever changing landscapes of technology; the growing needs and wants of our social fabrics - to name just a few…it must also honor and look for its evolution and wayfinding of new design and new built environments from what is currently existing before us. Many existing buildings are worth the redevelopment…it is always worth saving the history of a place, while also reintroducing the building to a new chapter of its life - both economically and socially. This video captures the partial evolution of our Bayshore Gardens project, which encompasses the adaptive reuse of two existing office buildings, making up more than 93,000 square feet of rentable space. Seen here, the East Facade of one of the two buildings undergoes its transformation…the ground floor has been repurposed to directly engage the surrounding neighborhood, offering a new use of restaurant, with an exterior patio/garden and canopy system - inviting the once closed off building to ‘open’ itself for exploration and interaction with its community. Much more to come…let's take a closer look at our newly designed activation of the ground floor here : https://lnkd.in/evViEkrp - ASD | SKY Asana Partners Tidal Construction Group City of Tampa #sustainability #placemaking #architecture #urbandesign -

Architectural Trends Embrace Wellness and Natural Light Integration In the architectural sphere, there has been an ongoing notable shift towards wellness and natural light integration. Outdoor spaces and sunlight are taking center stage, ushering in a transformative wave in architectural design. Here’s how: Passive Daylighting: Beyond simply enlarging windows, passive daylighting optimizes a building's features to maximize natural light. Strategic orientation, skylights, and reflective surfaces play crucial roles, ensuring spaces are illuminated while maintaining comfort. Optimized Outdoor Spaces: Outdoor living is gaining prominence, prompting architects to reimagine landscapes. From vibrant gardens to tranquil seating areas, outdoor spaces are evolving into seamless extensions of interiors. Creating functional, inviting outdoor environments is imperative for homes and offices alike. Bringing the Outdoors In: Integrating nature indoors fosters tranquility and connection. Live plants, natural materials, and indoor-outdoor spaces blur the lines between indoors and outdoors, enhancing everyday living environments. Think sunrooms with sliding glass doors or lush atriums filled with greenery. #architects #architecture #construction #wellness
