‘Never lose sight of the ultimate objective in developing your soldiers to be tough enough for battlefield conditions. In simple terms it is not to develop an athlete but a soldier who can operate efficiently under the most adverse conditions…’ - Junior Leadership On The Battlefield, Australian Army, 1990 Yesterday, the Sniper Team Leaders Course training was focussed on battle fitness. A simple, but effective test is the infamous ‘3.2’. It does what it says on the label: a 3.2 kilometer run, in uniform and webbing with a rifle. Sounds easy enough, but the trick is that it’s not quite long enough as an endurance event and not quite short enough for a full stride sprint. It sits in the ‘grey zone’ between being an endurance and speed event, making huge demands on the aerobic capacity of participants. As an indicator of motivation, resilience and grit, the 3.2 is the perfect test for soldiers undertaking advanced training at the School of Infantry. Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Hester, Army Futures Command, recently published a piece with the NCO Journal on Continuous Transformation; highlighting a core truth: transformation isn't a one-time effort but a relentless process. Today's Army must constantly evolve to remain agile and ready for tomorrow's challenges. This article brings home a powerful message-- our strength comes from soldiers, NCOs, and leaders on the ground-- those 'muddy boots' who ensure progress ins't just discussed but executed. Investing in training, adaptability, and the expertise of our people is critical to maintain this momentum. #ForgeTheFuture | #TomorrowIsWorthProtecting

This was making the rounds a couple of months ago- a memo from a 1st Lieutenant (name redacted, but could be 'Neidermayer') of a US Army unit, banning the writing or utterance of a phrase which, he felt, degraded operational readiness. That the phrase was likely *in* the soldier's lexicon because it was good for morale, is likely lost on him; he has the bars, he gets to issue the orders, because he is In Charge. Yup, gotcha sir. What's coming next- a memo reading "Floggings will continue until morale improves'? No wonder the army can't retain or recruit people. There are a plethora of reasons, but this would be one of my top ones- a rank heavy, immature bully trying to make a name for himself for all the wrong reasons. 'The most dangerous thing in the world' is NOT an officer with a map; it's an officer with a memo pad and a chip on his shoulders who has not yet been reality-checked by his platoon sergeant, Warrant Officer, and Sergeants-Major. #USArmy #infantry #UCMJ #TFReaper #WestPoint #officer #leadership #organizationalculture #morale

THIS is leadership in action! 👏👏👏 The US Army is eliminating ~346 hours of redundant, antiquated, or unsupportive warfighting and lethality training! From Sergeant Major of the Army (SMA) Mike Weimer 👇 "𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆: To meet the Chief of Staff of the Army's intent of eliminating training which is redundant, antiquated, or doesn’t support warfighting and lethality, the U.S. Army has determined it will 𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙭𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝟯𝟰𝟲 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙉𝘾𝙊𝙨. An analysis determined these courses were redundant and/or antiquated when assessed against current training requirements and needs. Enlisted courses being eliminated are Distributed Learning Courses (DLC) I–VI (formerly known as Structured Self Development (SSD) I–VI), they account for 253 hours or 31 days. Officer courses being eliminated are the Distance Learning Prerequisite for Commanders Career Course and the Distance Learning Prerequisite for Commanding General Staff Officers Course (P920), these account for 93 hours or 12 days. 164 hours of prerequisite Distance Learning Courses remain and are currently under analysis for potential elimination in the future. An ALARACT message will publish later today detailing full information on this change. This We’ll Defend!" #Leadership #Military
