Ever heard of a transatlantic flight? When an airplane travels over the Atlantic Ocean to reach locations in North America, Latin America, or Europe from countries like Africa, South Asia, or the Middle East, it is referred to as a transatlantic trip. A variety of aircraft, including balloons, airships, and fixed-wing aircraft, have made these flights. Transatlantic flights were initially beset by faulty aircraft engines, navigational issues over large waterways, and weather patterns that were erratic, particularly in the North Atlantic. But since the middle of the 20th century, transatlantic flights have been commonplace for a variety of reasons, including political, military, and commercial ones, connecting continents and promoting international travel and trade. #aviation #atlantic #aviationlovers

Is airspace a public good? ✈️ I was flying to Mexico City during a public holiday and received notice that the airspace above Mexico City would be closed for a military air show in celebration of Independence Day. All arrivals and departures for Mexico City International Airport (AICM) were suspended from 9am to 2pm, impacting hundreds of flights and thousands of passengers (MEX averages 1,061 daily flights and 132,000 daily passengers connecting to 100 destinations). Given the commercial value of MEX airport which supports 35,000 jobs and 25 airlines, does it make sense to suspend operations for a significant part of the day? The Independence Day Military Parade draws an estimated 140,000 spectators to the Zocalo alone, with many more along the parade route. Taking into account the benefit provided to local spectators, maybe it's a fair tradeoff to inconvenience commercial passengers for five hours? #airtravel #publicgood #mexicocity #airportclosure

On May 6, 1937, the aviation world witnessed a catastrophic event that would forever alter the course of air travel. The Hindenburg, a German passenger airship, erupted into flames while attempting to dock at the Naval Air Station Lakehurst in New Jersey, USA. This tragedy not only claimed the lives of 36 people but also marked the beginning of the end for airship travel, paving the way for the dominance of fixed-wing aircraft. In the aftermath, there was a swift decline in airship usage for passenger travel. The risk associated with hydrogen-filled airships, combined with the growing capabilities of airplane technology, led to airships being almost entirely phased out for commercial passenger use. Instead, they were used for advertising, surveillance, and research, where they still serve a niche role today. #HindenburgDisaster #AviationHistory #AirTravelEvolution #SafetyInFlight #HistoricAviation

differences Aerodrome A general term for any location where aircraft take off, land, or are maintained, including airfields, heliports, and seaplane bases. Aerodromes can be used for private, military, or cargo flights, and may not be certified for commercial use. Airport A type of aerodrome with more facilities, usually for commercial air transport. Airports have multiple runways, terminals, air traffic control, and emergency services. They are subject to stricter regulations and certifications than aerodromes, especially those serving commercial passenger flights.

We do not need more fighter jets! The world needs fresh ideas and a new type of politics and politicians, representing mankind as a whole and each of us as equals instead of fragmented political interests! We have to grow together in order to urgently address the issues that impact all of us like conflict, climate change, inequality and forced migration together. This we can only do without any dominance, as equals. Collectively in Solidarity. www.convergence.ngo & www.pax.ngo

All decked out, where do you want to go? Ready for takeoff, anchors away! Something that combines the elements of both naval and aviation terminology, absolutely fitting for this aircraft carrier scene. A thought provoking reference to both a jet's readiness for flight and a ship's nautical nature. No better way to capture the unique blend of sea and air operations that aircraft carriers represent. Meant to evoke the excitement and power of naval aviation, with a state-of-the-art jet poised to launch from a massive floating airfield.
