It sounds like a cliche, but I didn’t plan on a career in compliance and quality—it found me. Early in my healthcare career, as I watched people work tirelessly to serve clients and support staff, I felt inspired to help build a system that guides and supports them in delivering care that is safe, legal, effective, and efficient. Having navigated the healthcare system personally with my family, I've seen the deep importance of transparency and integrity from a patient’s perspective. I’ve also seen the harm that lapses in compliance can bring to patients and families. On the provider side, I’ve witnessed the unintended errors people make when support systems fall short, despite their best intentions. Compliance isn’t just a part of the business; it’s how business should be done. Organizations with leaders who recognize the value of a strong Compliance Program and framework are the ones setting the standard for success in today's complex healthcare environment. Every Corporate Compliance & Ethics Week, I take a step back to reflect on my own role and its impact. I consider how I can foster a safe space for my team to Do The Right Thing and help them feel empowered to prioritize ethics and integrity in every decision.
