Naveena Nekkalapudi’s Post

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting women and the most frequently diagnosed cancer worldwide. The often quoted five year survival rate of breast cancer is not and should not be the ‘end’ of the breast cancer story - it is simply the beginning. There is significant disparity in the care provided, both between countries and also within countries (e.g. urban vs regional, public vs private, priority population groups, etc). In light of this, I am delighted and excited to join the Global Breast Cancer Care Council in partnership with AstraZeneca to ensure that every breast cancer patient receives the best standard of care, irrespective of where they live. #breastcancer #womenshealth #healthpolicy #patientadvocacy #healtheconomics #globalinitiative #healthdisparity

Global Oncology Policy, Precision Medicine and Breast Cancer

Despite public perception, breast cancer remains a significant health threat. It is still the number-one or number-two cause of female cancer deaths in 95% of the world and according to World Health Organization, just a 2.5% reduction in breast cancer mortality per year would avert 25% of breast cancer deaths by 2030 and 40% by 2040 among women under 70 years of age. Additionally, healthy women are vital to strengthening the global economy, society and communities at large – yet international organizations and world leaders are not adequately prioritizing breast cancer as a policy priority.   Catalyzing breast cancer policy change at the global, national and local levels to ensure every breast cancer patient has the opportunity to receive the best standard of care requires immediate and targeted cross-sector collaboration. I’m extremely proud to announce that a few weeks ago, we kicked off the Global Breast Cancer Care Council in partnership with AstraZeneca. This is a landmark cross-sector initiative that will guide our efforts to elevate breast cancer policy as a global priority and improve breast cancer care for women regardless of who they are or where they live. The Council consists of policy, clinical, health economics and patient advocacy experts.   An immense thank you to everyone who is part of this amazing Council! I’m so excited for our work ahead to advance global efforts to elevate breast cancer care and improve women’s health around the world. Feeling energized and inspired!   Mary Ajango, Benjamin Anderson, MAIRA CALEFFI, Giuseppe Curigliano, Ricki Fairley, Andrea Feigl, Ana Rita Gonzalez, Dr Victoria Harmer, Thomas Hofmarcher, Naveena Nekkalapudi, Toyin Saraki and Victoria Wolodzko Smart 👏   #BreastCancer #WomensHealth #Policy #HealthPolicy #HealthEconomics #PatientAdvocacy Liz Chatwin Sunil Verma Michelle Commane Christopher McPherson Lauren Friedman Rosemary Carolan Shira Gerver Stefan Werner Weber Josefa Maria Briceno, M.D.
