Companies That are Closing Stores Should You Accept That Job Offer? In today's rapidly changing retail landscape, we've seen a growing trend of major companies announcing closures of hundreds of stores. While it’s common for healthy companies to streamline operations by shutting down underperforming locations, the alarming frequency of mass closures raises an important question for job seekers: Should you consider accepting a job offer from these companies? Pros and Cons to Consider 1. **Immediate Opportunities**: With many stores closing, there could be an influx of job openings at remaining locations. This may provide a chance to secure a position quickly, especially if you’re in need of immediate employment. 2. **Potential for Growth**: Working in a transitioning company can offer unique experiences. You may have the opportunity to take on new responsibilities, adapt to changes, and develop your skills in a challenging environment. 3. **Networking**: Joining a company, even during tough times, can help you build connections with industry professionals which may benefit your career in the long run. **Cons:** 1. **Job Security**: If a company is closing multiple stores, the risk of layoffs or instability in your role may be high. Consider how this could impact your financial situation and career trajectory. 2. **Company Reputation**: Working for a company facing bankruptcy or significant downsizing can affect your resume. Future employers may question your choice to stay with an unstable organization. 3. **Work Environment**: The morale and culture in a company undergoing such drastic changes can be challenging. This may lead to increased stress and a less supportive work environment. Ultimately, the decision is yours. Assess the company’s long-term viability, your career goals, and your personal circumstances. It may be wise to weigh the pros and cons carefully and consider whether the potential short-term benefits outweigh the risks of working for a company with a shaky future. What are your thoughts? Have you faced a similar decision? Share your experiences in the comments! #JobSearch #CareerAdvice #RetailIndustry #JobOffer #EmploymentTrends #economy #retail

While I am confident something bigger is on the horizon, this is a bittersweet update to share. Due to some organizational and location strategy changes at Walmart, my current role in talent acquisition has been impacted. Relocation isn't an option for my family at this time and Cincinnati is our home. As someone who consistently champions and models embracing change to my team, I am choosing to find the light in these changes. I hold great pride in the work and impact I've made during my time at Walmart. It's been a wonderful journey of collaboration, learning, and growth. Working alongside some truly amazing recruiters and leaders has been a joy. They continually prove that "People Make the Difference". They have not only enriched my professional journey but have also become a great source of inspiration. Their dedication, creativity, and passion would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to any team out there. The teams we have built that will shape the future of delivery for Walmart, the processes we navigated and lives we have changed, give me a great sense of accomplishment. Throughout my career, I've built strong relationships and networked with some truly phenomenal people. I'm confident these connections - the individuals who've worked closely with me, who know my work ethic first-hand, and understand the value I bring - will be instrumental in leading me to my next role. This is such a vulnerable update to share, but I truly believe in the power of connection. As this chapter at Walmart winds down over the next few months, I am eager and excited for the next. Here's to embracing change and new beginnings....and a new headshot! :-) #opentowork #walmartlayoffs #talentacquisition #cincinnati

Am I the only one seeing this? Thousands of people are actively applying for retail jobs, yet store after store is understaffed, with barely any employees on the floor. I see motivated candidates eager to work, but many can’t seem to get hired in these roles. What’s going on here? Are companies struggling to find talent, or is there a disconnect somewhere in the hiring process? If anyone has insight into this phenomenon, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s make it make sense!

This post really drives home a point I've tried to make numerous times. It's from someone who, despite their extensive experience, has been struggling to find work for over a year - even being rejected for roles like cashier. This is why I keep saying: just because something worked for you, doesn't mean it will work for everyone. There are many reasons for this, and one of them is discrimination. Whether it's racism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of bias - these factors significantly impact a person's job search, often in ways that aren't immediately visible. And in this job market, it's even worse. So please, stop telling people to "just go get a job at the grocery store." It's not that simple. This person's story isn't unique - I've heard similar accounts from others. And consider for a moment what it does to someone who's worked in the corporate world their entire career, only to have it all taken away through no fault of their own. The emotional and psychological impact is real. Your way doesn't work for everyone. Their circumstances may not be the same as yours. They are not you. You are not them. Instead of judging or offering one-size-fits-all advice, start helping. Share job leads. Offer to review resumes. Make warm introductions. And if you absolutely can't help, at least refrain from saying harmful things. Let's foster a community of support and understanding. The job market is tough enough without adding unnecessary judgment to the mix. Wishing you the very best of luck on your upcoming interviews, DeAnna Judd! 🤞🤞🤞 You've got this! #JobHunting #Discrimination #CareerAdvice #Empathy
The struggle is real! For my crew on the #greenbannergang we can all agree that sometimes life throws us a curve ball with our careers. At 15 months post-layoff, I’m still looking for an opportunity to continue my career of HR/Employee Relations. When my unemployment ran out in April, I found myself applying and getting offered a seasonal admin role at a local landscaping company. That ends this Friday. It was supposed to end 30-days ago but I was able to work another 30 days! Thank God. But in 24 hours I receive my final paycheck! For those of you following my story, I was excited to have made it to an onsite interview with a local grocery store this past Monday for a cashier position. Well, this morning I received the rejection email. 😩 No one believes me when I say I can’t get a pizza delivery gig, a Costco warehouse job and now a grocery store position? I’m at a loss & continue to be confused by the job market at all levels. However, also in the last 3 days, I have found myself being contacted for two different HR/ER roles! 😃 So I’m going to turn my frown upside down from my 16 rejection emails I’ve received this week, and focus on the other two organizations who want to speak with me further. Fall down 10 times, get up 11. It’s hard as hell & the bruises suck, but I’m no quitter!! Wish me luck on my next two interviews this week! 🍀 #layoffs #unemployed #hiringprocess #hr #employeerelations #strength #faith #positivevibesonly #wanttowork #jobsearch #transferableskills

Hungry, humble, smart Those are the qualities introduced to me by Jamie Lee (and I later found out are from Patrick Lencioni) that have been instrumental in our hiring at Zesty. Hungry: have the internal motivation to learn the product and industry and drive themselves, team, and organization to success Humble: when doing your work, keep the team in mind and shouting out others contributions. Don't downplay your wins, just give kudos where due Smart: intelligence is great, but having emotional intelligence, common sense, and self awareness are what define someone who works well within a team What else should we be looking for? #brand30 #hiring
