[MUST WATCH] What does the Open Budget Survey tell us? As we launch #OBS2023 it’s important to clarify what we measure. Since 2006, the Survey has become an essential benchmark for measuring whether national budgets are accountable and inclusive. The rigor of the methodology lies in in the fact that it covers concrete actions in the budget process consistently across 125 countries. However, there are dynamics that lie outside this process. Nevertheless, the survey is a powerful tool and a springboard for civic actors to hold governments accountable and ensure public funds serve public interests. Our director of policy and global advocacy Austin Ndiokwelu breaks it all down in this three-part video series. #OpenBudgets

Imagine if we created safe spaces for open dialogue, where urban scholars could talk freely about political issues without fear. What if we offered training in policy advocacy and built partnerships with non-partisan organizations to support them? This could give scholars the confidence to engage in these crucial conversations. By providing platforms for evidence-based discussions and highlighting how politics plays a key role in achieving true resilience, we could encourage scholars to step into the political arena more openly and effectively. #Urban Resilience #Scholars Dilemma # Politics and Dialogue

Congratulations to the International Budget Partnership for the launch of the Open Budget Survey 2023 yesterday. Exciting to see governments like #Indonesia and #Guatemala embracing and winning elections based on these democratic principles. Interesting also to hear how activists and unions are using economic arguments and #openbudgets to increase citizen engagement in closed spaces and hybrid regimes. There is still a lot of work to be done though, especially related to #transparency and opportunities for citizens to participate in the budget process. What strikes you the most in this survey? Why are engagement levels low? Survey results: https://lnkd.in/enxWRHFJ Open Government Partnership CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation #OpenGovWeek #OBS2023
The latest Open Budget Survey (#OBS2023) round is our biggest one yet-- it covers 125 countries, which are home to 7.5 billion people (95% of the world’s population) and included budgets totaling more than $33.5 trillion in spending in Fiscal Year 2022 alone - Austin Ndiokwelu, International Budget Partnership's Director of Policy and Global Advocacy. #openbudgets

🔍 A Closer Look at Impact 🔍 Coalitions are not just support networks; they are powerful engines for legislative change. By uniting voices from various sectors to advocate for common goals, coalitions can push for policy reforms that might otherwise be unachievable by individual organizations. The journey from concept to legislation is fraught with challenges, but coalitions navigate this path with resilience and determination, demonstrating the undeniable power of collective advocacy. At TWG, we believe in harnessing this power to create a fairer, more just society for all. #LegislativeChange #CollectivePower #PolicyReform
