Lifting the Human Element: Supporting Seafarers Through Change Seafarers face challenges as the industry transforms. How can we nurture their backbone role from the bridge to the engine room? Onboard technology must alleviate burdens, not replace essential humanity. Combat loneliness with high-speed global net access so families stay close at heart. Mental health requires the same priority as physical. Train managers in empathy and provide counseling programs to help crews process stresses. Champion welfare through fair wages paying living costs on every port. Harmonize regulations ensuring consistent support worldwide. Most of all, remember our humanity shares this ocean. As we navigate turbulence together, care for each other above all. Stay anchored by compassion through any storm. The way forward upholds dignity through justice, joy and community for all who face daily perils at sea to power global trade. #SeafarerWellbeing #MentalHealthAtSea #SupportForCrews #FairWages #RegulatoryCompliance #HumanElement #MaritimeCommunities #UnityInAdversity

On #DayoftheSeafarer and every day, we recognise the invaluable contributions seafarers make to our global economy and daily lives. These unsung heroes keep world trade moving, delivering essential goods and fuels that power our societies. At Idwal, we're committed to bringing transparency to crew conditions at sea and our recent Social Impact Report reveals both progress and ongoing challenges in seafarer welfare: • The average Idwal Social Impact Score across vessels inspected was 72.4 out of 100, indicating significant room for improvement in areas like connectivity, recreation, and living conditions. • While 96% of crews can celebrate cultural/religious events onboard, only 12.5% have access to unlimited free internet. • Larger and newer vessels tend to offer better conditions, but gaps persist across all segments. • Positive trends include strong emphasis on training (9.3/10 score) and workload management (8.9/10). Let's work together to use data-driven insights to create a more sustainable and equitable future for the seafarers who make global trade possible. https://hubs.la/Q02C_8JV0 #DotS #MaritimeIndustry #CrewWelfare #Sustainability

As negative rhetoric surrounding immigration intensifies, it’s crucial to spotlight the resilience and invaluable contributions of immigrant workers in the U.S. food system. Civil Eats consistently emphasizes how these individuals play a pivotal role in agriculture, food processing, and service industries—often in some of the most strenuous and dangerous jobs. Many face challenges such as underpayment, food insecurity, and workplace abuses. Despite these hurdles, immigrant workers embody remarkable resilience, enriching our culture and society through their diverse traditions and culinary practices. Their labor not only sustains our food supply but also enhances the richness of our collective experience as a nation. To counter prevailing negative narratives, we must amplify their stories and recognize their essential roles. I commend Civil Eats for their ongoing efforts to highlight these contributions and advocate for better protections and support for immigrant workers who are, undeniably, the backbone of our food system! Let’s continue to tell their stories and stand in solidarity. #ImmigrantWorkers #FoodSystem #Resilience #Advocacy #CivilEats

David Camp, chair of ALP (Association of Labour Providers) and Stronger Together opens our first panel discussion of the day: "It took the death of at least 21 cockle pickers in Morecombe Bay to alert the food sector to the requirement to license labour providers. This changed everything. It may not be perfect but it provides a framework for collaboration, and collaboration is key to tackle exploitation in the care sector, and that is what we are here to progress today." #collaborationiskey #tackleexploitation #caresector #labourproviders
