The New Deal for Youth is more than a policy framework-its a movement led by and for young people to address systemic injustices. By tackling economic inequities, promoting mental health, and rethinking the criminal legal system, it's paving the way for a future where youth can thrive. This is what bold, transformative change looks like. #TYPCollab #NewDealForYouth #YouthPower #PolicyForChange #EconomicJustice #MentalHealthMatters #YouthJustice #SocialJustice #EquityInAction #YouthAdvocacy #TransformativeSystems

🔍 Exploring the Intersection of Race, Mental Illness, and Justice in Youth Care Youth in care are among society’s most vulnerable, often misunderstood, and even criminalized due to trauma-induced behaviors perceived as dangerous. Racialized youth face even greater challenges, disproportionately caught in a cycle of criminalization. The article, "Punitive Justice: When Race and Mental Illness Collide in the Early Stages of the Criminal Justice System," written by our Research Associate Marsha Rampersaud, delves into how discriminatory perceptions of race and mental health shape justice system decisions from arrest to bail. 📚✨ 🌟 Key Insights: 1) Impact of trauma on youth behavior and perceptions 2) Disproportionate criminalization of racialized youth 3) Need for systemic reform and compassionate approaches Join the conversation and read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gPEC5aq #StepStonesForYouth #childwelfare #criminaljustice #mentalhealth #SystemicChange

Let’s talk about court ordered reunification therapy. If you share children with your abusive ex partner, and there has been a gap in contact between the children and their other parent, it is likely that a judge will order reunification therapy. in my early years of being a clinician, I provided reunification therapy for families involved with child protection. There were times when this work was beautiful. And there were times when it was completely unethical. What was the difference between beautiful and unethical? The ability of the parent to take full accountability for how their behavior is and actions negatively impacted the child. This was without blaming other people and without blaming the children. The other difference is parents who made consistent, authentic, and sustainable change, allowed this work to be successful. Those who perpetrate domestic violence and coercive control do not fall into either of these two categories. They do not take full accountability, or really any accountability for how their behaviors harm others. And they do not typically have authentic, long-term change. And reunification camps are NEVER ethical! I do a deeper dive on this weeks episode of The Rising Beyond Podcast if you are interested. I hope that legal professionals and mental health professionals will take a listen so that we can best support. What is the best interest of our children. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Being clear about intersectionality, economic abuse, mental health and trauma and workplace policies impact the holistic health and wealth of your business, educational institutions, social organizations, faith-based communities, etc. is important, no matter how large or small. How well versed are you and your teams regarding prevention? What do you know about financial abuse? What are some clear strategies to thrive? How much does it cost you to replace an employee vs support and retention? You may be surprised to learn just how many employees and students are struggling with forms of abuse without your knowledge. I have decades of experience having working with everyone from corporate America to nonprofits, military and law enforcement to healthcare industries, and higher learning institutions to elementary school students and faculty. Reach out to me to learn more about the ways we can work together to implement supportive strategies to educate and empower confidence and sustainability. #domesticviolence #awareness #economy #coaching #mentalhealth #healthandwellness #diversity #professionaldevelopment #personaldevelopment www.joycekyles.com

Today, at the doctor with my teen felt different‼️ About one in three (34%) Black women who used health care in the past three years report that a negative experience with a health care provider resulted in worse health (13%), them being less likely to seek care (19%), and/or them switching providers (27%). So teaching her how to advocate for herself with healthcare providers is a privilege I don’t take lightly. It's important to empower our loved ones to speak up and ask questions about their health, both physical and mental. Encouraging open communication and self-advocacy skills from a young age can make a world of difference in healthcare. Let's break the stigma and prioritize wellness for our children as well as ourselves.
