NEW – our 2024 GP survey results are out now. It’s clear from these results that the great majority of GP locums across the UK are struggling to get work, with a myriad of potential causes for this being cited. Some of these reasons being practical, but also related to systemic underfunding in general practice and the introduction of ARRS roles. It’s also clear that in the areas where locums have adopted LocumDeck at scale, in these cases brought about by central ICB funding, the majority of locums report a positive impact on their livelihoods. While most aged care homes continue to struggle, some are profitable. Why? In UARC’s Full-Year Report (2022-23), the authors found the top 25% of homes (by financial result) generated large operating surpluses of over $30 per resident per day while the bottom 75% are generating increasingly large losses of more than $36 per resident per day. UARC’s upcoming Mid-Year Report (2023-24) brings you the latest results and provides an in-depth examination of what is driving this trend including differences in the level of nursing and personal care, the amount spent on food or other everyday living expenses and the cost of accommodation. Australia’s Aged Care Sector: Mid-Year Report (2023-24) is available from 20 June 2024 at https://lnkd.in/eEzSxE8W. GPs are still pursuing collective action across England to fight for the contract funding that we all need to keep general practice running. No professionals are better equipped to deliver on Lord Darzi’s proposals than fully qualified, highly experienced GPs who are licensed to diagnose and treat patients in the community, without supervision. We all know this, but the constraints that so often restrict delivering this care are legion. If we are to accept that there will be no extra funding without reform, then the government has to accept that there can be no reform without extra funding. The crisis in GP is bad enough that practices are taking colle ctive action. Whatever the proposals in the Darzi report, it's clear GP needs to at least be met at the bargaining table to resolve problems with the contract before any reforms take place. Thanks for watching. NEW BUNDABERG HOSPITAL | One of the features that we’re really excited about is the inclusion of a dedicated children’s waiting and treatment zone in our new emergency department (ED). WBHHS ED Staff Specialist, Dr Bellice Olima, said EDs could often be highly stimulating, unpredictable, confusing and busy environments that are full of unfamiliar people and unusual sights and sounds. “Having a paediatric area that is separated acoustically and visibly from the general waiting and treatment areas, but still observable by staff, will help to alleviate some of the worry and stress our younger patients and their families may feel," she said. Bundaberg mother Rebecca Halstead welcomed news that the new hospital’s ED had been designed to cater for the unique physical, emotional and psychosocial needs of children and adolescents. “Young kids are quite sensory, so having access to a dedicated quiet environment is developmentally more appropriate and will help to minimise distress for young people and their families,” Rebecca said. If you or your organization want to play a leading role in attracting doctors here, let me know. This issue was prioritized by our municipal partners as a key economic constraint but no single organization, municipality or govt policy can solve it alone. It’s requires a collaborative, cross-sectoral, region-wide effort.
Meet Dr. Dennis Kim, Medical Director of Trauma Services, Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority. Healthcare professionals like Dr. Dennis Kim often have their choice of places to live and work. But after 12 years in Southern California, Dennis and his wife decided to leave Los Angeles to return to Canada, where they had both grown up. In Greater Victoria, they found opportunity, a better quality of life, and a safe, healthy place to raise their family. “I think that ‘aha’ moment came for me when I decided to do a locum at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General [hospitals]. It was really just meeting the people in the ICU and emergency room, and right off the bat getting a sense that this was just home.” Rise with us at victoriarising.ca #yyj #victoriabc #victoriarising
