Living Wage Week in New Zealand celebrates the commitment to fair pay and dignity for all workers. As living costs continue to rise, the importance of ensuring that all employees receive a wage that covers basic needs and allows them to live with security becomes even more critical. Wotton Kearney is proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer, ensuring our team and regular contractors receive wages that reflect the real cost of living in Aotearoa. By investing in the people of Aotearoa, we help build stronger communities and a more equitable society. As we mark Living Wage Week, let’s reflect on the value of fair pay for all and consider how we can continue to support and drive change in our workplaces and communities. We’re happy to announce we have become accredited as a Living Wage Employer. This commitment will see everyone working at The Grower receive a minimum hourly wage of £12, higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £11.44 per hour. We are based in the South West, a region where over a tenth of all jobs (11.8%) pay less than the real Living Wage - around 285,000 jobs. Despite this, The Grower has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since it began, the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 360,000 people and put £3 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers. “We are committed to creating a positive work environment and it’s important for us to recognise the value of rural sector jobs. Being Living Wage Accredited in our local area shows our commitment to providing sustainable and viable employment for local people. Fairer wages for a fairer world” Says Chris Managing Director of The Grower. #livingwage #cornwall #skills #work #sustainability #agriculture #forestry #landscape #environment #trees #woodlands #plantingtrees @livingwagefoundation @businesscornwall @cornwalllive

For us at Chia Sisters, paying the Living Wage is a key part of building an awesome team that believes in what we do, so we sat down with our founder Chloe Van Dyke for a kōrero on what it's all about. Every worker deserves a wage that covers their needs. But some 45% of hospitality workers in Scotland didn't receive the real Living Wage in 2023. This blog from our Research Manager Laura Robertson and Chirsty McFadyen of the Fraser of Allander Institute shows how our Serving the Future project points a way forward. https://lnkd.in/e3nNP4Y3

Hi Everyone! I am going to be hosting an unbelievably cool event at my house. I'd love for my beloved LinkedIn contacts to co-host with me. Here's the details. Acclaimed Michelin Starred Chef Dominique Crenn will be providing food on September 24 at my home in Los Altos. The event is to support an awesome non-profit called One Fair Wage. You may not be familiar with One Fair Wage. They are doing super important work. It is a national organization of nearly 300,000 restaurant and service workers, nearly 1,000 restaurant owners, and dozens of organizations nationwide. They are all working together to end all subminimum wages in the United States and raise wages and working conditions in the service sector. One Fair Wage policy seeks to require all employers to pay the full minimum wage with fair, non-discriminatory tips on top, thus lifting millions of tipped and subminimum wage workers nationally out of poverty. This is particularly important now as there have been moves nationally to say that tips are owned by employers while holding subminimum wages flat. You might say, “really? That sounds like crazy talk.” But yeah, that kind of thing is happening in places around the country. It ain’t right, and we need to support organizations like One Fair Wage to stay on the right side of history. Here’s the ask: 1. Lend your name and support to this crucial cause. 2. Invite your network to join the event - with a goal to invite at least 10 individuals to purchase tickets at $1,000 each. 3. Participate in a powerful gathering of like-minded individuals. 4. Play an important role in this pivotal time for our country and economy. The planning of this should not take a ton of time, but we would appreciate you joining the co-host committee. If you are interested, I’d love to introduce you to the co-founder and President of One Fair Wage, Saru Jayaraman, so that you can learn more about the possibility of joining me as a co-host. Please let me know if you might be open to having such a conversation. Or, if you want to co-host, you can just let us know, and we will put you on the planning committee. If you are interested in co-hosting, please email me (nchatterjee@goodwinlaw.com) and my assistant Jennifer Hernandez (jhernandez@goodwinlaw.com) and let us know you would like to join the co-host committee. We are shooting to have a list together by the end of next week, August 2 so please let us know by then if you are interested. Thanks for considering this event. The event should be super cool, super fun, and we can do some real good along the way. If you know of other foodie, civic minded folk whom you think may be interested, feel free to share this with them. Thanks!

👉 I know there are those companies who love to undercut and sell labour like a commodity… but we are in a race to the TOP 🚀💪 As Co-Chair of the Recognised Service Providers Leadership Group at the Living Wage Foundation, I am proud that Cleanology is leading the cleaning and FM sector when it comes to fair pay and, not just supporting, but actually paying the Real Living Wage to 99% of employees (100% next year) 🎯 This is making a meaningful and tangible difference to people’s lives, delivering a better service to customers and is the right thing to do. It makes perfect business sense, which is why we paid £6 per hour in 1999 when the minimum wage was first introduced at £3.60 per hour. A fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work 🙌 Buy cheap, pay twice 🤦♂️ If you would like to discuss adopting the Real Living Wage into your business and learning more about the business benefits, please do reach out to me. The new 2024-25 rates were announced this week and are detailed below 👇 Finally, a huge THANK YOU to our clients who continue to support the Real Living Wage, especially during these challenging economic times 🙏🙌🙌🙌 Www.Cleanology.com — Phil Smith #reallivingwage #livingwage #budget #cleaning #facilitiesmanagement #fm #facilities #facman #ethicalbusiness #esg #fairpay

Is this the last hurrah for housekeepers to gain a wage boost? I think not, but the timing is certainly interesting as it coincides with both the peak of hotel-room rates and the possible upcoming shift in political landscape in the U.S. The attached article also provides some case studies on the gender wage gap and the reality that “scheduling” enough shifts to put bread on the table are continuous challenges for women. I disagree with any claim that staffing shortages in North America are a problem, as there are literally millions of unemployed people out there seeking jobs. Hiring is a problem. Training is a problem. Job-matching is the biggest problem.
Strikes start at top hotel chains as housekeepers seek higher wages and daily room cleaning work
