"Resilience: From Metallurgical Engineer to Managerial role in Business Development" Life doesn’t always follow a straight path, and neither does a career. Starting out as a young Metallurgical Engineer, I never imagined the twists and turns that would shape my journey to becoming a Manager in Business Development. It’s been a road full of challenges, hurdles, and the occasional setback. But, if there's one thing I've learned, it’s the power of resilience. From the complex metallurgic processes to the evolving demands of business management, I’ve encountered situations that seemed hopeless. There were moments where failure knocked at the door, but each time, resilience became my greatest ally. I bounced back, not just stronger, but wiser. The ability to adapt, learn, and grow from difficulties has been crucial. It’s not about avoiding failure; it’s about rising every time you fall. Each challenge, from technical complexities to leadership struggles, has become a stepping stone in my growth. Today, as I look back, I realize that resilience has shaped who I am as a leader. It taught me that progress is not a straight line but a series of comebacks. No matter where you are in your career, remember this: every hurdle is an opportunity to grow, and with resilience, you can achieve even more than you ever thought possible. #Resilience #CareerGrowth #LeadershipJourney #Business Development Manager #EngineeringRoots

One question I always get from people is why the career change. From Mine Overseer at Anglo American Thermal Coal to being the founder of a company in meat processing. It wasn’t just a career change, it was a leap into a whole new world. Moving from the structured safety protocols of mining to the meticulous quality standards in food processing has required constant adaptation. Every day is a learning day. What continues to drive me in this new phase is the unchanging pursuit of excellence. Whether it's ensuring safety in the mines or guaranteeing the highest quality of meat products, the core mission remains the same—excellence is non-negotiable. 🌱 Each day brings fresh insights and new skills, reminding me that the thirst for learning and improving should never cease, no matter the industry. . . . . . #OperationalExcellence #entrepreneurialjourney #Leadership

What Physics can teach us about managing innovative breakthroughs and incremental improvements. Critical things to learn are: 1. For growth, phase change is critical. We need to boil things up! We can't get a lot of work done with warm water. 2. It is important that the two phases be separated and yet be in dynamic equilibrium. It is the primary task of the top management to ensure that the organization structure is right to balance both the phases - systems and outcomes. 3. Just because steam has more energy than water, we can't boil out the source. We need to constantly top up the water. For both the organization to sustain growth, building talent density is critical. Subodh PS: Ignore typos. I wrote this blog to be productive while sitting on a back table of a stereotypical meeting 😀😀

Here's a scenario: 👎 You have a customer that has historically low product usage. 👯 However, when you have a call with this customer, the key stakeholder and the stakeholder's team attend the call. 🎉 The customer realizes that they have work to do to "relaunch" the product internally and are looking for strategic guidance. BUT 🛑 You never follow up with that strategic guidance. In fact, from call to call, you never provide anything other than promises to follow up. You're going to kick the can until you can get answers. The above scenario could be indicative of a CSM who is not performing optimally OR it means that the "best practices" are simply not available and that the work to uncover and collect them is still undone. Here's the bottom line: Part of growing as a CS team means doing the hard work of documenting your knowledge and mining it so that others can use it to empower the work that they do with customers every day. This is true of leadership and individual contributors. Until growing organizations realize this, CSMs will always tailspin in the scenario I described above. Knowledge management is key to growth, enablement, and ultimately scale. #themoreyouknow #customersuccess #leadership

Tricky problems must be shaped before they can be solved. To start that process, and stimulate novel thinking, leaders should look through multiple lenses. Finding innovative solutions is hard. Precedent and experience push us toward familiar ways of seeing things, which can be inadequate for the truly tough challenges that confront senior leaders. After all, if a problem can be solved before it escalates to the C-suite, it typically is. Yet we know that teams of smart people from different backgrounds are more likely to come up with fresh ideas more quickly than individuals or like-minded groups do.2 When a diverse range of experts—game theorists to economists to psychologists—interact, their approach to problems is different from those that individuals use. The solution space becomes broader, increasing the chance that a more innovative answer will be found. #Problemsolving #innovation #solutions

I had a meeting with a mining executive this morning and this came to mind... Results Don't Come from Focusing on Results As counterintuitive as it may seem, you don't achieve great results by obsessing over results themselves. The key to breakthrough performance lies in cultivating the right habits and behaviours that naturally lead to those outcomes. Too often, leaders fixate on lagging indicators - sales figures, market share, profitability. But these are merely the end products of countless small actions and decisions made day after day. To drive real change, we must shift our attention upstream to the inputs that shape those outputs. Consider the case of Alcoa under Paul O'Neill's leadership in the late 1980s. When O'Neill took over as CEO, he didn't set ambitious financial targets. Instead, he zeroed in on one critical behaviour: workplace safety. By relentlessly focusing on reducing workplace accidents, O'Neill catalysed a cultural transformation that ultimately quintupled the company's income. This principle applies equally to personal development. In a landmark study at University College London, researchers found it takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit. Participants who consistently performed small daily actions eventually automated those behaviours, leading to sustainable long-term changes. The lesson? Stop fixating on the scoreboard and start optimizing your practice. Identify the key habits and behaviours that drive success in your domain. Then design systems and environments that make those behaviours inevitable. Remember, excellence is not an act, but a habit. What daily practices will you commit to today? #Leadership #PersonalDevelopment #OrganizationalChange
