I was over complicating STAR technique yesterday prepping a candidate for an interview. Instead think like... Look at each competency, reframe it as a competency question (or move the JD into Chat GPT and ask it to do instead). For each question, I.e. "tell me a time when you demonstrated excellent customer service". And then tell a story (a real one obvs) framed as below.. 1) Let me tell you a story about a time when I had to deliver great customer service. It was at X org, my role was X and as a result I had to deliver X.... (super important as it adds credability) 2) Now let me tell you how I did this... (and tell them how you did it). Done. For each question write one word down that prompts you to think about tjat story (or a few words).. ie the angry customer at the dog and duck. Once you have a list of stories, you have a bank of well rounded answers.

8th May, 2024 I thought of a hypothetical scenario to interview PM candidates with VoiceChat with ChatGPT & published a simple 12 mins YouTube video demonstration. Based on that, Lance Douglas built www.iaxov.com using his 3 decades of experience building solutions for the industry. Now all the JDs & interviews I've been through sound ridiculous. Such Is Life. 😂 Once you see what's possible, you can't unsee it. Now with that simple tool IAXOV, we propose to radically: -change the filtering & hiring methods -save huge cost and time -improve evaluation accuracy

Nailing the coding challenge and passing the technical interview are really just baseline for getting a tech job, especially a senior hands on role. I think the “fit” interview is just as important, where I look for these qualities especially: 👊 Initiative: are you going to point out problems and areas for improvement or are you just going to move your stories? 👊 Holistic Outlook: do you think about how your code affects the whole product and the end user? 👊 Continuous improvement: what are you doing to learn and grow? When chatgpt can tell you in an instant how to make your algo more efficient, these “soft” skills grow in significance exponentially (get it 😜?).
