🐬 Marine conservation is a critical issue that demands our attention and action. Our oceans regulate the global climate, provide food and livelihoods, and support diverse ecosystems. However, human activities are putting immense pressure on these environments. Effective marine conservation is crucial for the long-term health and sustainability of our planet. Over the years, the degradation of mangroves has been severe with a loss of 1-2% annually😢.This may have been due to different factors some of our own doing and others by nature.Either way,we have felt its effects, from landslides, destruction by strong waves/tides and the lost of our livelihoods. Lately, the youth have stepped up big time in coastal conservation 🌍. Globally, ecosystems are bouncing back, with up to 60% restored! Ceriops Environmental Research Organization is one of the youth-led orgs leading the charge in #Restoration, #Conservation, and #Education on ecosystems.Understanding ecosystem pillars and benefits to us and our future🌱 is the way to go,incorporating indigenous knowledge and the community is the drive that pushes us forward. Nature is speaking, and we all should listen because it has some important things to say! It can be said louder but not clearer: nature doesn’t need people, but we need nature, and our future depends on it. Similarly, infrastructure is essential for the survival of human societies worldwide. Infrastructure is everywhere, and it is critical to ensure economic growth and social development. Ironically, despite how crucial these two elements are for societal survival and thriving, poorly planned and designed infrastructure can profoundly and devastatingly impact nature and the planet. In fact, infrastructure is one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss. The good news is that infrastructure can also play an instrumental role not only in reducing environmental impact but also in conserving, enhancing, and restoring natural ecosystems. While their potential has yet to be fully exploited, alternative approaches to traditional infrastructure, like nature-positive infrastructure and nature-based solutions, show how infrastructure can integrate environmental considerations and sustainability into infrastructure projects and do its part in this complex global endeavor. It’s time to rethink our approach to development to ensure infrastructure and nature coexist harmoniously, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future for all. Nature-based carbon credits are a powerful tool to achieve net-zero emissions, but time is of the essence. Exciting to see 5 eNGOs members of the Natural Climate Solutions Alliance - American Forest Foundation, Conservation International, Environmental Defense Fund, Fauna & Flora , The Nature Conservancy and Wildlife Conservation Society - joining forces to call on Science Based Targets initiative to include 5 key guardrails in its review of how carbon credits are used for Scope 3 emissions abatement. 🌿 Their letter stresses how, with proper science- and evidence-based guardrails, carbon credits will speed, not hinder, climate progress at a global scale. Marine ecosystems face many challenges, and various solutions need to be/have been implemented to avoid the escalation of the crises. Some solutions include: 1. Interdisciplinary interventions, 2. Regulatory policies, 3. The implementation of MPAs, and 4. Education in marine ecosystem conservation. NSFSS is committed to joining the fight through an impactful Study Abroad program with experiential learning covering these solutions, global environmental change, among others. Our hearts tell us that spending time in nature inspires people to care for it. The results of this study 'suggest that enhancing people's engagement with nature can be a valuable strategy for promoting behaviour change that helps address global environmental issues.' Early environmental education strategies were more about getting kids into nature than theories. Maybe we need to go back to basics, build on all we have learned, and prioritise time in nature again. #nature #natureconnect #environmentaleducation #behaviourchange Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation #NatureForAll

How are you today? Tell us what you want to hear from us. A Call for Multidisciplinary Support in Environmental Conservation. The challenges facing our planet today are multifaceted and interconnected, spanning across environment, biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable development. Addressing these issues requires a collaborative effort from a wide range of disciplines. This request aims to highlight the urgency of these challenges and the need for multidisciplinary support to ensure a sustainable future for all. Our environment is under unprecedented pressure. Pollution, deforestation, and overexploitation of natural resources are degrading ecosystems at an alarming rate. The consequences are far-reaching, affecting not only wildlife but also human health and livelihoods. To mitigate these impacts, we need concerted efforts in environmental conservation. Biodiversity is the foundation of ecosystem health and resilience. However, species are disappearing at an accelerating pace due to habitat loss, climate change, and human activities. The loss of biodiversity undermines the stability of ecosystems and the services they provide, such as clean water, pollination, and climate regulation. Protecting biodiversity is crucial for maintaining the balance of nature and ensuring the well-being of future generations. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time. Rising temperatures, melting ice caps, and extreme weather events are clear indicators of a changing climate. These changes pose significant risks to both natural and human systems. To combat climate change, we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, and promote climate resilience in communities and ecosystems. Sustainable development aims to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This requires balancing economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. Sustainable development is essential for creating a just and equitable world where all people can thrive.
