Nature-Based Solutions (#NbS) and Nature-Positive Engineering (#NPE) Towards Creating #Resilient #State, #Societies and #Communities #Transformational thinking [#learning #teaching....] is pivotal in addressing environmental challenges and enhancing our landscape's biodiversity, ecosystem profile, and collective natural heritage COP16 Colombia COP16Riyadh COP29 Azerbaijan. Approaches that integrate ecological principles into engineering can help foster resilience and sustainable development; while the arguments seem to hold potential, we also need to discuss how to best operationalise the #concepts to #action. Key hurdles include #institutional inertia and limited #stakeholderawareness amid other #socioeconomic and #sociocultural aspects. Overcoming these requires targeted #capacitybuilding and supportive policies- United Nations and United Nations University supporting this agenda #SDGs. Impact measurement is crucial, as well as metrics and indicators that can be monitored and assessed with participatory models. Recognizing nature as an asset 🌍 and engaging stakeholders 👯 , especially local communities 🛤 , is key to achieving desired outcomes from #NBS and # NPE-focused thought processes. While opportunities for scaling exist in sectors like coastal protection and renewable energy goals and targets, other sectors can undertake feasibility assessments to plug these concepts as embracing transformational approaches can smoothen the ride for a #resilient future, balancing human well-being and environmental health ( structure/function/benefits) for #regions #communities and support the aim to #leavingnoonebehind Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay thanks for initiating the discussion and look forward to sharing some insights from our work #agenda2030 Tejendra P. "From Classrooms to Fields: Students Driving Climate Action" Students of Woxsen University, from Centre of Excellence for Environmental Research (CoE-ER), conducted an immersive field study in the rural communities of Sangareddy District. Engaging with local leaders, elder community members, and farmers, they delved into the evolving impact of climate change on livelihoods and agricultural practices. As part of their research, the students visited the Panchayat Office to collect demographic data, enriching their understanding of the region's socio-economic and environmental dynamics. Their efforts align with COP29’s vision, focusing on raising awareness, promoting sustainable practices, and building climate-resilient communities. UOW has been ranked among world’s best for environmental and social impact. 🎉 The QS Sustainability Rankings 2025 by higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, placed UOW 98th globally and 13th in Australia. UOW Interim Vice-Chancellor and President Professor John Dewar AO said the University has reduced its carbon footprint through educational, engineering and purchasing improvements. “We are equipping our students with the knowledge and skills to tackle global challenges. We are driving research and industry collaborations to combat climate change, preserve biodiversity, and create a more equitable world. Over the past month, I have been actively seeking and advocating for learning resources and connections related to training the youth and members of Sustainable Green Initiatives & Innovations (SGI). SGI is a company dedicated to empowering communities, particularly women and youth, by participating in various sustainable green initiatives and innovation projects, many of which are spearheaded by young people within the local community. To successfully carry out these projects, it is crucial that we equip ourselves with the necessary knowledge and accurate information to ensure productivity in these areas. Our group consists of 17 members and 35 volunteers, and we are in search of an effective and sustainable approach to learning and sharing this knowledge with the community. Our primary focus areas include sustainability, environmental stewardship, agricultural practices, green technological innovations, and renewable energy educational programs. Title: –Engaging Students of Digital Revolution Hub in Spreading Awareness for Biodiversity (SDG 15) Date of Visit: October 25, 2024 Location: Northern Regional Library, Tamale, Northern Region, Ghana Participants: Mohammed Aminu (Facilitator) Abdul Haleem (Co-Facilitator) 30 students from Digital Revolution Hub Objectives: Engage students of Digital Revolution Hub in spreading awareness about the importance of biodiversity and its role in sustaining ecosystems. Educate participants on local biodiversity, conservation efforts, and actionable steps they can take to protect it through collaborative activities. Activities Conducted: Presentation on Biodiversity: Conducted an engaging physical presentation that introduced the concept of biodiversity, highlighting its importance and threats in Ghana through interactive discussions and visuals. Group Discussion: Facilitated a discussion among Digital Revolution Hub students, focusing on local flora and fauna and their significance in maintaining ecological balance. Hands-on Activities: Local Ecosystem Exploration: Students participated in a group activity to identify local plants and animals in the library's vicinity, discussing their ecological roles to enhance understanding through observation. Crafting Awareness Posters: Students created posters promoting biodiversity conservation, which will be displayed in the library and shared within the community. Outcomes: Students from Digital Revolution Hub gained a deeper understanding of biodiversity and its impact on their community. Many participants expressed interest in engaging in future conservation initiatives, fostering a sense of responsibility towards environmental protection. Plans for follow-up sessions to discuss ongoing conservation projects and how students can further engage in these efforts. Next Steps: Organize a tree planting event involving Digital Revolution Hub students to enhance local biodiversity. Establish a Biodiversity Club at Digital Revolution Hub to leverage digital skills in promoting ongoing education and action in conservation efforts. Additional Suggestions: Educational Materials: Provide brochures summarizing key points about biodiversity and conservation to participants. Feedback: Include quotes from students regarding what they learned and how they plan to contribute to biodiversity efforts in their communities
