Outsized valuations are there for AI - but its harsh reality time for all else. Many VC's have little dry powder, and those that do are raising the bar for startups’ business fundamentals. Investors want to see: - evidence of stronger customer traction, - organic revenue growth, especially for B2C. Even then, might not happen for you. So what do you do? Here are two solutions: 1. Capital Formation Coaching: For those with enough to fight for, want to be on their own, but need help and want to explore other areas of capital formation beyond what they have tried. We can help. Stony Hill Advisors, Inc. 2. Acquisition via Soft-LBO: For those wise enough to jump off the hamster wheel and try a different direction, having a team of pros with experience and a deep network, leveraging access to other tech and resources, all with the ability to become part of multiple public companies. A path to an exit of a different kind, through Small Business Development Group, Inc. (Stock Symbol: SBDG), the holding company and parent of Stony Hill Advisors.

Interesting to see the resurgence of larger rounds - and not just in AI - and all being driven by the CVCs in the syndicate. Cour Pharmaceuticals, which targets the immune system, raised a $105 million Series A round including Roche Venture Fund, Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Angelini Ventures, and the JDRF T1D Fund; Seoul-based AI chipmaker Rebellions raised a $124 million Series B led by local data centre company KT; Figure AI, building a humanoid robot, is in the market to raise $500 million co-led by Microsoft and OpenAI, according to Bloomberg; Inari Agriculture, a seed designer, raised a $103 million round from Hanwha Impact among others; and Kore.ai, which provides conversational AI products, raised a $150 million round from Nvidia. By contrast, CB Insights notes VC investors are shifting their portfolios toward early-stage companies, which hit a recent high of 65% in the US in 2023. In Silicon Valley, that level was up to 74%, or roughly 3 in 4 deals. In my experience, the best VCs are the superconnectors. Their network is ever expanding and they take pride in striving to connect and support others. One way to achieve superconnector status is through deal flow sharing. Deal flow sharing is super important whether you're trying to break into the industry or an established veteran. Sooo: I built a basic RAG app that stores an investor database complete with name, description, sector focus, stage focus, check size, and region for all of the firms in my network. Then, I made an easy interface that: 1. Takes in a pitch deck PDF 2. Extracts its contents 3. Analyzes using the RAG chatbot to find the best investor matches in my network for that particular startup Because their are plenty of startups I see that aren't a fit for my investment thesis, but could be excellent for others. And who doesn't want more VCs to work collaboratively, right? Look out for next week's edition of AI for VC 👀
