Keyland recently sold its interests in Templegate Developments Ltd to joint venture partner EVANS PROPERTY GROUP for an undisclosed sum.   TEMPLEGATE DEVELOPMENTS LIMITED is the company behind Skelton Gate, a 170-acre former open-cast colliery site to the east of Junction 45 of the M1.   Skelton Gate is being developed and built using key principles of sustainable development whilst delivering a residentially led mixed-use scheme of high quality and design. To date, the partnership of Evans and Keyland has secured planning permission for Phases 1 and 2, which includes up to 1,100 homes, a new school, public open space, a local centre and a food store. An application is currently running for Phase 3, which will provide an additional 700 homes and infrastructure. So I've been following recent posts about small town core revitalization efforts in england with some interest. One aspect in particular is how similar the conversation sounds to the main street conversations we've been having since the 70's(?). I don't know if the issues are specific to england and the u.s., but I do find it a little bit reassuring that the problems of downtown revitalization, and the solutions, are on some level more universally applicable. (note all the qualifiers in that statement), because it suggests to me that if the best revitalization methods (like the main street 4 point approach) do have a fundamental application everywhere, then conversely, policies they combat (like pavement widening, single family only large lot zoning, and parking minimums), are fundamentally inappropriate, and that has implications for revising zoning, land use, and design code.

The Main Street Visioning process is looking to transform Main Street between US-41 and School Avenue into a more welcoming, safe, connected, lively, and attractive hub of commerce and activity by evaluating all aspects of the right-of-way, including but not limited to travel lanes, parking, sidewalks, and landscaping. The project will evaluate how Main Street looks, feels, and functions to develop a vision that supports and reflects the community’s needs and values.
