Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way... "Every year is getting shorter. Never seem to find the time. Plans that either come to nought, or half a page of scribbled lines." This is me. Is it you too? Time is fleeting. Busy wins too often. And we can't we stop time slipping through our fingers, but we can put some healthy boundaries in place to ensure that we are present more of the time. "Hanging on in quiet desperation" is not a way of living, it's a way of just getting through it. When Pink Floyd released the Dark Side Of The Moon album in 1973, from which this song, Time, came from, this kind of thinking was progressive. It was considered edgy to dare to speak openly about feelings and the human condition. Music was meant to be poppy and catchy, not serious and subversive. And yet, we look to artists to point the way for us. To open doors that weren't there before. In 1973, it was okay to hang on in quiet desperation, to just get through, to soldier on regardless. But now, we know so much more. We know there are better ways, and I love the role music plays in our lives to not only entertain and uplift but to prod, provoke and even protest. 🎶 Unveiling Music and Memories, a special initiative in partnership with the Talent Development Project that taps into the power of music to evoke joy and unlock memories in people with dementia. This unique campaign brought together three talented young musicians, Jordyn Richards, Sam Green and Jade Steg, from the Talent Development Project with three people living with dementia: Ann, May and John, to create original pieces of music that would not only capture the stories of the participants but serve as precious mementos to their loved ones. With over 421,000 Australians living with dementia, and this number expected to rise, the power of music offers a ray of hope. NeuRA's Dr Craig Sinclair explains how music can spark the cognitive processes tied to memory: “Exposure to music alone is understood to have therapeutic benefits, but it is also believed music provides a ‘scaffold’ for the cognitive processes that establish memories. It’s why we often see the ability to play an instrument or sing a song preserved in conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease – the most common form of dementia." “By partnering with the TDP, we’re building tempo on the powerful relationship between music and memories and giving people with dementia and their families a unique gift through song.” Watch the full video: https://lnkd.in/gnfcj626 Support NeuRA’s dementia researchers here: https://lnkd.in/gMFPAUNd #MusicAndMemories #DementiaAwareness #NeuRAGivingDay

As promised, this is the full title of the album shown in the video. "The Boy Bands Have Won, and All the Copyists and the Tribute Bands and the TV Talent Show Producers Have Won, If We Allow Our Culture to Be Shaped by Mimicry, Whether from Lack of Ideas or from Exaggerated Respect. You Should Never Try to Freeze Culture. What You Can Do Is Recycle That Culture. Take Your Older Brother's Hand-Me-Down Jacket and Re-Style It, Re-Fashion It to the Point Where It Becomes Your Own. But Don't Just Regurgitate Creative History, or Hold Art and Music and Literature as Fixed, Untouchable and Kept Under Glass. The People Who Try to 'Guard* Any Particular Form of Music Are, Like the Copyists and Manufactured Bands, Doing It the Worst Disservice, Because the Only Thing That You Can Do to Music That Will Damage It Is Not Change It, Not Make It Your Own. Because Then It Dies, Then It's Over, Then It's Done, and the Boy Bands Have Won." Safe to say, Silviu was 100% correct when he said it'd take him more than a minute to read it for you. We end a chapter in music history. The last album from legendary musician Childish Gambino has been released and has received critical acclaim from the masses. He leaves a legacy that many have built upon, inspiring many to start their own musical journeys and transform their musical styles. An authentic talent from a person that has many talents to speak of, whether it be directing and acting or being a producer and artist, Childish Gambino is in a league with the likes of Pharrell and many others, rising above the majority of talents with his cultural impact and prowess. I think this record emulates his last thoughts being in the music industry this long, the trials and errors, the lessons, and then realisations that happened through out his career, from songs like In the Night to No Excuses (this song being reminiscent of his ep Summer Pack) really tying to his music legacy track by track with meticulously placed features that make this record what it is. Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) spoke about his departure from music, saying, “There’s nothing worse than like a third sequel, like a third movie, and we’re like, ‘again?’” from his interview with Revolt Magazine, referring to his music becoming "expected" and dragged out when that's not his true intention. I think musicians can learn from this and really reflect, knowing when to stop. As in, talent and creativity will always be there, but when the feeling and authenticity leave, you should follow them and not force your art, because forceful art is the downfall of any great artist. #musiclegacy #unmatchedtalent #culturalicon #endofanera #youngtalent #creativeways #musicanmindset #knowingwhentostepback

CAN I KEEP IT 100: #7 TRUE Story a few years back I was excited 2 be working on a new dramatic hip hop album for an overseas #musiclibrary, who the owner had indicated to me that his company was really trying to break into the US market more specifically the urban realities TV shows, " Black Ink Crew ", " Love & Hip Hop ", etc. I was like kool that's one of my lanes and that I have LOTS of music in those types of show here already in the states. I finished the 10 track album and submitted 2 them for their review. About 10 days later I get an email saying hey we love the album BUT! we have a few changes we would like 4U to make. 🤨 BRUH!!!! 😩 they had 2 to 3 notes on ALL 10 tracks. Make this crash cymbal into a ride cymbal, change that ending note to a C#, etc. NOW!! before I continue, let me say this to those of U who R new to the #sync game, making revisions is part of #musiclicensing and sometimes multiple revisions. HOWEVER in this case I did the unthinkable, some might even say taboo I TOLD A MUSIC LIBRARY NO!!! 😱 I professionally responded to his email and said that I did not have the time, nor did I agree with the said changes and that I would rescind the album and give to another music library partner. A year and a half later every songs on that album has been placed multiple times UNCHANGED on all type of shows. MORAL OF THE STORY: It's OK 2 tell a music library NO, U R not beholden to them but rather you should be in a partnership with them. And like I said it's normal 2 do revision in this bizness, if you send me a brief from a client and they need some technical changes cool. But where I draw the line is when a music library tries 2 infringe on my artistic musical expression and integrity, like play those chords in this key instead of that one. " Nope not doing that "as one longtime music library CEO said 2 me " Most of these people in these sync spaces aren't musicians or even musical and DON'T know what they are talking about " ☺️ WHAT R YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS? #canikeepit100 #productionmusic #syncmusic #musicproducer
