Exciting Developments in the Construction Industry! Recently, I caught a segment on BBC's One Show that really resonated with me. A determined 17-year-old shared his journey of seeking career advice for landing an apprenticeship in construction. Despite facing challenges and having to navigate the process on his own, he found his path and is now thriving as an apprentice. Kudos to him for his perseverance and dedication! A mum who was fed-up in her desk role wanted todo more and become self employed set up a plastering business she is thriving and encouraging more women to get into the construction industry. In other news, the launch of new apprenticeship funds this month injects £60 million into the industry. But the question remains: is this enough? With the growing demand for skilled workers, we need hundreds of individuals joining the construction sector each day to up-skill and contribute to building our future. However, when asked, many young people expressed hesitations about entering construction due to misconceptions about working conditions and salary expectations. Let's break down barriers and showcase the rewarding opportunities that construction offers! I'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can attract more talent to your business regardless of the sector. Let's build a brighter future in construction! #ConstructionIndustry #Apprenticeships #BuildingTheFuture

🚧 One month in, and it's been a great experience communicating with over 400 construction companies! 🚧 In my role, a big part of my conversations has been checking in on employers that have apprentices—making sure they're progressing smoothly and identifying any support we can offer. I love talking to employers, it's never a dull day! ✅ Getting called the wrong name (Sam, Darren, Dave) ✅ Somebody telling their dog to shut up down the phone 😂 ✅ Confirming I'm not actually from CITV 📺 But ultimately, hearing about their experiences with their apprentice, and supporting them with their industry needs, is fantastic. If you're working in construction, I highly recommend connecting with your local CITB adviser. We’re here to help, whether it's with apprenticeship support or any other needs you may have. Let’s keep building the future of our industry together! 👷♂️👷♀️ #Construction #Apprenticeships #CITB #IndustrySupport #BuildingTheFuture #ConstructionCareers

As TICA-ACAD oversee the Alliance Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) for Thermal Insulation we have been able to closely analyse the current workforce age profile and compare this to what is happening in the wider construction industry. The long and short of it is, that like with the wider construction industry, Thermal Insulation also has an ageing workforce; 30% of carded insulators will reach retirement age in the next 10-15 years. As the Trade Association representing the Thermal Insulation industry, it has been crucial for us to proactively try to remedy this skills gap. The good news - we have more than doubled apprenticeship numbers in the last 3 years and already forecast that we will more than replace those leaving the industry through retirement over the next 10-15 years. This is a very different picture to many other trades experiencing the same issues… The bad news - there’s still so much more we can do!! I bang on about this all the time but if I asked any Thermal Insulation contractor what their biggest challenge is, without missing a beat they would say “skilled labour. I have more work than people to fulfil it!”. Which in some respects is a nice problem to have, but nevertheless is still a problem. So yes, replacing the ageing workforce, we’ve got it covered! But GROWING the current and future workforce is where we need a call to action from ALL contractors (members and none-members alike) if they are to really meet demand. What the infographic here is trying to highlight is growing the workforce to the level needed is completely within the realms of possibility. If every contractor took just ONE (or one more) apprentice for the next 3-5 years this would completely change the trajectory and go a really long way to future proofing the industry. Please have a read of the original post and the corresponding press release. If you’ve never taken a Thermal Insulation apprentice before or are keen to take more then please feel free to DM me. We have an abundance of advice and support to help you on the apprenticeship journey and a range of events coming in the new year which should myth bust some of those common misconceptions about apprenticeships #skillsgap #ageingworkforce #onemoreapprentice #apprenticeships #construction #careers #ticaacad #thermalinsulation #flytheflagifyoulag #lagging #lagger
