In a world-first our Sandvik roadheaders are being operated via tele-remote, supporting the development of the Western Harbour Tunnel project with ACCIONA AU & NZ and Transport for NSW. Tele-remote roadheaders are a critical step forward in removing operators from the coal-front, ensuring safer operations whilst maintaining productivity.
12 Months of Tunnelling!
We are excited to mark the first anniversary of tunnelling for Stage 2 of the Western Harbour Tunnel project with Transport for NSW.
Our team has made remarkable progress, with six roadheaders excavating the tunnels towards the Harbour.
Each roadheader moves an impressive 1,000 tonnes of rock daily - equivalent to the weight of 91 buses.
We have completed 2.9km of the 7.6km Stage 2 tunnelling, while reusing spoil and water and working with the community to minimise impacts.
By late 2025, we will deploy the largest tunnel boring machines in the southern hemisphere to tunnel under Sydney Harbour.
This project will transform Sydney's transport network, and provide a seamless connection from the Warringah Freeway to the Rozelle Interchange.
We are proud to contribute to Sydney's future, delivering infrastructure that will connect communities while improving journey times and reliability for millions of people.

🇦🇺 🏗 Roadheaders in action!
Strong progress continues on our North East Link Tunnels project in #Australia, where the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) tunnels now have five roadheaders excavating beneath Bulleen Road.
Since starting in September, these mighty machines have been excavating the section of the tunnel that will link the Manningham Road on and off ramps to the Eastern Freeway in #Melbourne.
Next year, three roadheaders launched from Manningham will meet two more launched from the Trinity site. The roadheaders will break through in 2025.
#Webuild, as part of the Spark Joint Venture, is delivering the North East Link tunnels for the Victorian Government. The project will enable a more sustainable future by taking 15,000 trucks off local roads every day and reducing travel times by up to 35 minutes for commuters. Once complete, it will be the longest road tunnel in #Victoria.

We thank U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson of Pennsylvania’s 15th district for touring our progress at the Interstate 80 North Fork Bridge worksite in Brookville, Pa. 🏗️ We showed the Congressman how our innovative construction plan will maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction throughout construction, straighten the eastbound lanes, and incorporate important environmental components.
This is part of the innovative PennDOT Major Bridge P3 Project, an award-winning public-private partnership megaproject addressing Pennsylvania’s backlog of major bridges needing replacement and rehabilitation. The project comprises the design, construction, sustainable financing, and routine and life-cycle maintenance of six critical interstate bridges essential to the state’s intra and interstate transportation system.
💡FACT: This megaproject has won two industry awards this year for its innovative financial structure, local participation and sustainability measures that set a new standard in public-private partnerships. 🏆🏆

We are so saddened by this terrible crash yesterday on the Sydney Harbour Bridge that resulted in loss of life and serious injuries. Our thoughts are with the bereaved, the injured, and all loved ones affected by this avoidable tragedy.
SARAH’s “Drive So Others Survive” initiative is not only about encouraging drivers to actively protect those on the road ahead, but as part of Vision Zero, to ensure infrastructure is designed and maintained to minimize harm in the event of a crash... so “Everyone can #GetHomeSafe to their loved ones… Every Day… No Exceptions!
SARAH is an advocate for using movable barrier systems on bridges because they not help traffic flow, but more importantly, prevent serious injuries and fatalities by preventing drivers from crossing into oncoming traffic. With potential head-on collision speeds exceeding 120 kph on the Harbour Bridge, the consequences are disastrous... but this is completely avoidable!
Movable barriers, like Road Zipper, use linked concrete barriers to prevent head-ons. As I am overseas on my Churchill Fellowship, and will be in Canada in two weeks, and grateful I had already planned to see this tech in action on the Alex Fraser Bridge Vancouver.
You can watch a video regarding the review of the Moveable Barrier System as part of the Alex Fraser Bridge improvement project. See:
Major works have commenced on the $430 million New Swan River Crossings project in Fremantle, marking a significant milestone in improving connectivity and safety in the region. This transformative infrastructure project will deliver new road and rail bridges, easing congestion and enhancing access for both commuters and freight.
The project is a key part of Western Australia’s METRONET program and aims to future-proof transport links across the Swan River, while also preserving the heritage-listed Fremantle Traffic Bridge. Once completed, the new crossings will improve safety, reduce travel times, and support economic growth by providing vital transport connections for the region.
With construction underway, this project represents a significant investment in Western Australia's infrastructure and will play a crucial role in supporting local jobs and the economy.

17 sites along the Central Interceptor tunnel route and 12 Beacon Awards dished out so far. Lyon Avenue in Mt Albert is the latest inductee after a rigorous health and safety inspection saw the site tick all the boxes. We don’t hand out Beacon awards willy-nilly 👉 The sites have to show they’ve achieved the required standards for construction, health and safety, documentation, sustainability and the like. In fact, some sites are asked to improve aspects of their operation before they’re handed the award. In a nutshell, the Beacon Awards are aimed at raising standards to the highest possible level, making sure our teams don’t become complacent, and leaving a legacy for the construction industry. Our newest site, Pt Erin in Herne Bay, is the 13th site to have Beacon status in its sights. Eyes on the prize, team 👀

Oftentimes, when we 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞, it is because of the 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬.
I was a very very little boy when the Third Mainland Bridge was commissioned on the 6th of July, 1990. But I still remember very clearly how the adults and older children in the neighbourhood described the bridge. It sounded like a wonder of the world.
One particular neighbour boasted so much about it that I couldn't wait to see it. However, it was the father of a close friend who taught me a profound life lesson during this event. He swore that he didn't believe such a bridge was possible to build. He had even laughed hard on the day the project was announced on television. And also shared that he was not the only one who doubted the possibility of such a building project, his colleagues at work and a few other friends didn't believe either.
But the completion and commissioning of the bridge had humbled them, he said. After narrating how he and his friends didn't believe that such building construction was possible, he concluded by saying, “my son, it is only in our minds that anything is impossible. As far as someone or some people are bold enough to take action, there is absolutely nothing that's impossible.”
That was my earliest valuable lessons about life. Now that I work on the Island and happen to use the bridge quite often, I am consistently reminded that if this bridge was nothing but an idea in the mind of someone before it was built, then indeed, nothing is impossible.
This week, go in this might!
