"Congratulations! 🎉You had the low bid and you got the job! Your bid was way lower than the next guy." This is something exactly zero percent of contractors want to hear. It is immediately followed by the sinking feeling and the thought "what did I miss?..." 🤦🏻 It is important to put procedures in place to ensure you put together complete bids. 1) Start with a broad list of trades, then narrow it down based on the construction documents and actual scope. 2) Make sure you or someone on your estimating team reviews ALL the construction documents, every page of the plans and spec book, and all addendum. 3) Have thorough conversations with subs and suppliers. Do they understand the spec? Are they bidding a complete scope for their trade? Read their bids thoroughly and understand any exclusions they may state. 4) Give yourself time to double/triple check the scope and number. Get any RFI's in early. Don't procrastinate. Only you can give yourself the best chance to put together a good number. PRO TIP: If you don't feel confident in your bid or you don't feel comfortable with the project or customer then don't bid it! Trust your instincts, there will always be more opportunities. Only pursue projects you are confident in or have the potential to help you grow in a manageable way. Don't bet the house on a risky project. #construction #generalcontractor #constructionsales #constructionfinance #cfoadvisor

🏗️ Ready to win more residential projects? Here’s how to master the bidding process! 💼 Bidding can be competitive, but by following a few key principles, you can boost your chances of success. Here are three basics to keep in mind: 1. Understand the Scope of Work Always start by thoroughly reviewing the project. Visit the site, study the plans, and ask questions to ensure your bid accurately reflects the work required. A well-informed bid is more likely to hit the mark. 2. Price for Profit, Not Just to Win Don’t fall into the trap of bidding low just to get the job. Factor in all costs, including labor, materials, and overhead, so you can deliver quality work and still make a profit. Undervaluing yourself can hurt your bottom line. 3. Build Relationships with General Contractors Strong communication and trust with GCs are key. Be clear, professional, and deliver on your promises. GCs who trust you are more likely to hire you again, even in a competitive bidding process. Looking for more tips to help your subcontracting business thrive? Want to establish rapport with a General Contractor (GC) but struggling to get noticed? Here's a simple strategy: 🔹 Step 1: Initiate face-to-face contact by visiting their office. Build that crucial initial relationship. 🔹 Step 2: Price your bids competitively, ideally at cost or slightly above. Don't overshoot on the first job to make your offer irresistible. 🔹 Step 3: Follow up diligently on your bids. Set a timeframe for bidding multiple jobs and maintain communication. Weed out non-responsive GCs to keep your momentum. 🔹 By implementing these steps, you'll assert control, avoid desperation, and keep your leverage high in business negotiations. #ConstructionIndustry #BusinessStrategy #Bidding #WinningBids #Takeoff #Estiamtor #ConstructionManagement
