Let's talk about the fascinating world of checklists and procedures! (Yes I'm serious about it being fascinating😉) Did you know that these humble tools have a rich history dating back to 1935? Back then, the B-17 bomber's operations were so complex that pilots couldn't possibly memorise every step. Enter the checklist – a simple yet ingenious solution that revolutionised aviation safety. Fast forward to today, and checklists aren't just confined to the skies. This is especially true in IT, where workflows and processes must be followed through to the letter. Think about it: documenting intricate procedures ensures nothing falls through the cracks and reduces errors, ultimately lightening the cognitive load on our teams. In moments of crisis, these checklists become our guiding lights. Having a structured checklist at hand can mean the difference between chaos and calm, between success and failure. They empower us to tackle pressing issues swiftly and effectively, even under the most intense pressure - be that piloting an aircraft or overseeing the reliability of an online service that billions of people depend on. (Been there, done both :) So, the next time you're crafting a checklist or procedure, remember its incredible journey from the cockpit of a B-17 bomber to the heart of your IT operations. #Checklists #Efficiency #IT #Tech #Flying

Here's a thought - instead of pouring in precious $$$ in this direction, how about directing more of this resource to training and improving the competencies, skill levels and knowledge of your pilots (plural)? Increase the minimum requirement simulator training to keep your pilots sharp and up to speed (no pun intended). I'd bet that the $ spent will provide more immediate and even long term impact to safety performance.

When Freud s Ego controls the cockpit, some pilots start to act like they are “Celebrities “! Flying isn’t inherently about competing against yourself or against anyone else, An unchecked ego in the cockpit can undermine collaboration, communication, and decision-making processes. This tense atmosphere caused by immature ego-driven behavior can significantly increase stress levels among pilots that can compromise the safety of a FLIGHT, Next time you get in your airplane, think about who’s driving this bus—you or your ego, and never forget the golden rule: “always leave yourself an out “. Check your Ego, stay grounded and be safe. #NationalTransportationSafety #CRM #aviationsafety #egocheck

With NBAA BACE around the corner and a huge emphasis being placed on safety industry wide, we are curious to hear your opinions on one hot-button topic that has come up more often recently... the concept of single-pilot operations. Proponents of the idea look forward to lowered costs and a solution to current and future pilot shortages. Some people believe this is just part of the natural progression of technology and aircraft development. Those arguing against the idea, such as many pilot unions, say that a reduced crew would increase workload on the remaining pilot and remove a critical layer of monitoring & cross-checking leading to a significant safety risk. This is sure to be a continued controversial discussion throughout the aviation community. https://zurl.co/X2L8
