A quick thought about conferences and how to get great outcomes if you are attending… I’m off to Quirks London in a few weeks. I’m pretty excited about attending, partly as there are some interesting talks, but mostly because it’s a great opportunity to catch up and network. If you are coming, let me know and I’ll happily add you to the people I’m planning on meeting up with. And there’s my point… I’m planning. And if you are attending a conference or event, you need to plan. Have clarity on why you are attending (brand building, leads generations and sales, learning and development, all of these!) and then plan accordingly: 1) Plan before to promote that you are going and reach out to get meetings set-up (don’t just hope they happen). 2) Plan on the day to post content and most importantly to take detailed notes about all the people you meet and chat to. 3) Plan to spend the day after the conference to follow up, using those detailed notes that you’ve taken. Don’t leave it, get sidetracked and then realise it’s two weeks later and you are too embarrassed to follow up. If you are going to a conference in the next few months I hope you have an amazing experience. Meet people, learn and even generate opportunities for your market research and insight agency… I’ll see you there! #mrx #marketresearch #marketingresearch #insights

The side events at conferences can be more impactful than the main event imo. Here’s why👇 It’s more conducive to establishing 1 on 1 relationships and relationships are everything. You get to see how they interact and treat others in a more intimate setting. Working with people that you trust is a must and just hearing a sales pitch at a booth isn’t enough. It’s not always just about business, when you socialize people will more often than not just be themselves and level with you. You get to talk to real decisions makers not just the minions more often than not if you get in the right rooms and plan. Getting in the right rooms with the right people already signals a lot to others and facilitates deal making. The best alpha and best intros seem to always be shared in person in smaller group settings. You can pick and choose who you interact with to maximize and focus your time. Most main conference events are overpriced and speaker quality isn’t always the best. Last conference I met with a little over a dozen contacts nearly all at offsites over a dinner, drink or a coffee. A handful of those I’m happy to now call partners. Looking forward to Consensus in Austin. If you’re going to be there and want to meet up or have a great event lined up I still have a few times available 5/30-6/1.
