United students learn quickly that effective congregational ministry, leadership, advocacy, and art is rarely a one-person job. As any organizer or activist will tell you, collaboration is at the heart of meaningful justice work. Peace is a multi-party affair. Just as a professor might task students with a group project, our alums are tasked with pursuing their distinct vocational paths as collaborators—co-conspirators in the transformative effort toward justice and peace. From fellow alums to members of our faculty, administrators, ministers, staff, and trustees, there is no shortage of voices in our over six decades of history calling for a transformed society. In the spirit of collaboration and our shared pursuit of the greater good, this year, we are honoring "Many Voices United for Justice and Peace." Whose voice has transformed you, your congregation, or your community? Whose voice has stirred your convictions and encouraged you to take action? Whose voice has given you a new perspective or changed your mind? Whose voice has comforted or guided you? Whose voice has affirmed your calling? As names come to mind, we invite you to give in their honor or memory. Through June 30, a generous alum will be matching all gifts up to $25,000. Any gift you make to the United Fund will have double the impact, ensuring United’s future is bright and secure. Visit https://buff.ly/3QSG01S to double your gift today.

Are you supporting families impacted by Child to Parent Violence and Abuse (CAPVA)? Thanks to funding from The Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership and in collaboration with Capa First Response, we’ve produced a series of insightful films and training resources to help professionals understand and address CAPVA. A recent study by Liverpool John Moors University (LJMU) identified a significant portion of both parents (65%) and practitioners (85%) agree that CAPVA is a problem in Merseyside. A majority of practitioners (67%) perceived an increase in CAPVA incidents in the past year compared to the previous year, while none reported a decrease. These tools equip you to make a meaningful difference in families' lives, promoting understanding, resilience, and positive change. 📽️ Watch the films and find out about training available here> https://lnkd.in/gwaA_Snh

The challenges facing children have grown enormously in recent years. Life is just too hard for too many children. There are too many children whose childhoods and wellbeing are affected by poverty, who are struggling with their mental health, and who are not getting the right support when they need it. The work we do daily to support teenagers gives us firsthand experience of how hard life is for some teenagers and families with teenagers. Our Children at the Table campaign wants to ensure the next government has a plan to make decisions for babies, children and young people so children are at centre of their policies. With local authorities’ children’s services predicting an expected £4 billion funding shortfall, there has never been a better time to put vulnerable children first. I’m proud The Children's Society is standing together with our friends Action for Children NSPCC National Children's Bureau and Barnardo's to form The Children’s Charities Coalition. We are proud to have 200 other charities stand with us too. We are calling the leaders of all parties to commit to making children happier, healthier and safer. We want to see an ambitious and collaborative cross-government strategy underpinned with an outcomes framework for happier, healthier and safer childhoods. The experiences and voices of children must be at the heart of decision making and, crucially, a greater share of our national wealth needs to be invested in services for children. We cannot continue firefighting one crisis after another. We need to start investing in prevention and early intervention to make sure babies, children, teenagers and young people are happy, healthy and safe today, and feel confident about their future. Our next prime minister must be a champion for all children before time runs out My article for CYP Now 👇

Join us for our annual conference which will take place on the 15th & 18th November 2024. The premise of this year's conference is rooted in the principle that people possess the abilities to devise their own solutions in the face of difficulties, be it in an educational setting, in their community, at home, or within the justice system. Restorative practice provides values, culture and a reliable structure for relational and trauma informed practice in any context. The different approaches help build, maintain and repair relationships and grow community strengths, to prevent and address conflicts effectively. A restorative approach prioritises inclusion and diversity of perspectives to problem solve well, promoting healing and reconciliation rather than punishment and exclusion. Restorative practice is most effective when implemented as part of a larger restorative culture, where communities are empowered to utilise their own strengths and resources before professional interventions that may have an impact on their lives. When all members of a community are fully committed to fostering a restorative culture, it provides the foundation for transforming conflicts into opportunities for personal and collective learning and success. A community that fully embraces restorative practice has the potential to cultivate a safer, more joyful, and more productive environment for all individuals involved. During this conference we will delve into the relationship between restorative culture and community empowerment. We are aware that adopting a restorative approach can have a significant positive impact on the well-being and opportunities of our communities, particularly for those who are involved in or at risk of engaging in organised criminal acts and other societal issues that can lead to crisis. By addressing the underlying causes and providing support for individuals, we ultimately strive for a better quality of life for children, families, and individuals. Implementing restorative practice as part of our community support initiatives in schools, criminal justice system, and the wider community not only teaches the importance of recognising others' feelings, but also allows for successful connections and communication. This approach empowers community members to think independently, foster trust, and develop more mature responses to challenging situations, all of which are crucial skills. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to be part of the conversation. Register at https://ow.ly/PBK450SB0JV today to reserve your place.

Please read as this is an important topic and affects everyone. #educationfunding #education #policy #budget #edfunding
Education got cut under a spending cap that froze 2024 non-defense funding, & the cap for 2025 is about the same. The President’s 2025 budget increases #edfunding so it’s vital that Congress hear why education funding matters; use @edfunding's toolkit @ https://cef.org/advocacy/
