🚫 Skip the cover letter and keep it simple! When applying for jobs, it’s tempting to send a fancy cover letter, but here’s the thing: some automatic application systems can cut off information, which means the employer might only see your cover letter, not your full resume! 😱 Keep your resume clean, clear, and concise. Only include a cover letter where indicated.

Here’s how you grab a hiring manager’s attention with your cover letter. When applying for a role, you want to express three things: 1️⃣ your excitement 2️⃣ you can do the job, and 3️⃣ you would be a great fit on the team. Your resume alone cannot do all of those things. Which means you want to upload a cover letter with your application materials. Grab your freebie with the link in my bio.

𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬. There are three main components to focus on: ✨ Cover Letter ✨ CV/Resume ✨ Answering Application Questions Today's post is all about 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬, and I'll keep it as short as possible. Here’s what I’ve noticed: 1. 𝐀𝐈-𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐲-𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: They lack the personal touch. It’s easy to spot when a cover letter is just a recycled template. 2. 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲: Think of your cover letter as the final piece of the puzzle. It ties your LinkedIn profile and CV together and adds a personal narrative to your application. It’s your chance to explain why this particular role excites you and how you’re a perfect fit. 𝐒𝐨, 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫? 𝐀𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲! It’s not just about listing your skills—it’s about showing your passion and motivation for the role. If you are interested in more tips on crafting a great cover letter? Let me know! 😊

Delete this information in your resume 📝 🚫 5 Objective Statements : The objective statement is often generic and may not be apt for the position you are applying for. This may limit your opportunity to apply for other positions that you may be open to explore. Instead add a well drafted summary of your career path, that highlight your skills and overall experience. Pro Tip - You can use this space to utilize it as a short cover letter too( keep it simple ). Get creative and drop the outdated objective statements from your resume. 📑

In my latest post over on Glassdoor's healthcare "bowl" community, I pose the following reflection and question: In these days of online job portals, the cover letter may seem like a lost art. However, a cover letter can still be an essential tool in your career toolbox. If an application allows space for a cover letter, it’s prudent to take advantage of this opportunity to tell your story in a compelling manner. Who knows? Your cover letter could be the thing that truly makes you stand out from other candidates. In this respect, do you still see the value in a well-written cover letter? https://lnkd.in/gqwqjrvT #career #careers #glassdoor #coverletter #coverletters
