I've been a gamer for about 40 years, and I can honestly say, I think that Alan Wake 2 might be the best game I've ever played. I can't remember the last time any piece of media made me smile this much, get so invested in characters, or even think as much about the story, life in general, art and what makes and motivates us. All while being bloody good fun to play. I've had a bit of a Remedy Entertainment Plc fanboy crash course. Though I did play Max Payne back in the day, I only played the first Alan Wake (which I missed first time around, as it was an Xbox exclusive, then wrote-off, thinking it was some basic Resident Evil clone) a couple of months ago. I loved it instantly (my son watched me play it, and commented "this game was made for you"), then played Control (which was also great), and was really psyched for the next installment of Wake. It didn't disappoint. I genuinely hope that more people buy and play it. It's an artisticly creative game that really deserves success, though I don't even need to look to guess that it has probably already been outsold by the latest Call of Duty/Assassins Creed/FIFA snoozefests. But Remedy has managed to be something of an outlier, in being a studio that has been making games, on their own terms and with full creative control, for over 20 years, and without (like so many other developers of the time) having been consumed by artless profiteering mega-studios. Possibly one of my favourite moments, and definitely the best piece of rock about Jungian philosophy I've ever seen/played (no spoilers. More a recap of the events of the first game):

We need to support local acts to not replicate what major artists are doing & focus on building their own ecosystem. The artists mentioned above already have an in built audience.Their priority is awareness and consumption. Developing acts don’t have thataudience, Their priority needs be developing that.
