Understanding the cause-effect relationship is important in getting long lasting solutions. Making everyone involved in problem solving is also key.
After a weekend long problem solving session with our team and some #vanilla #cooperatives, we are confident our action plan will improve #organicintegrity in our upstream supply chain. Ernest, our Kasese district agri-extension coordinator recaps for us. Social systems are very complex. Hypothesis testing about to commence! #ugandavanilla #organic #fairtrade

SAFEGUARDING A TRADITION A key element in the safeguarding of an intangible cultural heritage is the continuity of the tradition that sustains it’s significance in the community. Relying solely on structured formal programmes and commercialisation of the products of an ICH may risk losing its meaning to the community. The jamu tradition is more than a list of recipes and inventory of essential ingredients. It is about keeping the tradition a norm within the community. In my venture into continuing the jamu tradition of my family, I am working on indentifying basic recipes that a household should know about, that rely much on readily available ingredients from the kitchen.

What does your city mean to you? For me, it’s everything. My home, my brand, and a place to represent as I travel the world in search of new experiences. Recently I started a new series called “Best of the best according to chefs” on my Instagram and TikTok, with the goal of showing people everywhere that OTTAWA isn’t the boring government town it’s made out to be. It’s so much more than that, and mainly, that it’s primed to be the next hospitality tourism destination in Canada. By meeting with industry professionals all over the city and simply asking them their favourite spots in town, I’ve learned a few things. 1. My assumptions were correct, Ottawa needs the push. I’ve had countless comments along the same vein of “I’ve lived here for a decade and never heard of any of these places” referring to long standing staples in the city. 2. Ottawans are passionate about their food and drink! It’s a constant debate of where the best place is for pizza, sandwiches, coffee, and everything else in this city. But this further proves how much variety we have at such a high level! 3. If you do what you love, and you do it authentically, people will gravitate towards it. Everyone is looking for a way to connect, and food and drink is a staple in connectivity. By providing a place for people to have comradery over a common love, in a simple but authentic way, it’s created a booming network that allows us all to participate in our own personal ways. I love this city. That’s why I write about it, create videos week after week with new people, and support businesses of all sorts in any way I can. My goal is far from achieved, but I get closer every single day! If you’d like to follow along on my journey you can watch videos on my social pages @pizzuti22 or read my articles through Ottawa Life Magazine on my website at

HERE'S WHY THE FUTURE FOR MAORI & PAKEHA RELATIONS IS BRIGHT - Younger generations of Pakeha are learning to embrace Maoritanga. Why? Because they have a clearer less bigoted, more tolerant understanding - of our nations history. They want to focus on the positive similarities that bring us closer together. Not the negative differences that keep us apart. And the vast majority of younger people don't view us (Maori) like so many of their parents and descendants have - as unworthy second class citizens. Unlike most old farts (like me) I see a bright collaborative future for our tiny far away island nation at the bottom of the world. It won't happen over night, and yes there are going to be some short term turbulent times ahead - but it will happen. The trick is to work backwards from a unified vision based on we, not I or me. Because isn't that really what almost all of us want and need? A political leader capable of doing that will bring us all together. Be nice if that happened in my lifetime. Our patience will eventually be rewarded All we have to do is, hurry up and wait. 😊🙏 It won't happen over night; it will however happen. If for no other reason than because it must. We have to avoid the abhorrent conflicts happening right now all over the world. Whenever I feel a tad melancholy I take comfort in the Desiderarta by Max Ehrmann "whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world." https://lnkd.in/g9vy8bqi

This one post that I read recently blew my mind 🤯 → A hostel served upma every morning for breakfast. The hostel had 100 residents. → 80 students complained daily, demanding something else be served. → But 20 students were thrilled eating upma every day. To resolve the chaos, the warden introduced a voting system: “Vote for what you want for breakfast. The dish with the most votes wins.” Here’s how the votes turned out: 👉🏾 20 votes for Upma (the same happy lot). 👉🏾 18 for Masala Dosa 👉🏾 16 for Aloo Parotta & Dahi 👉🏾 14 for Roti & Sabzi 👉🏾 12 for Bread & Butter 👉🏾 10 for Noodles 👉🏾 10 for Idli & Sambar Result? Upma won daily, even though 80% of people didn’t want it. Food for thought (pun intended): When 80% of people are divided, scattered, and self-serving, the 20% who are united will always rule. PS: And THIS 👆🏾wasn’t really about Upma 💀.

What's in a Mee Pok? Wikipedia: "Mee pok is a Chinese noodle characterized by its flat and yellow appearance, varying in thickness and width. The dish is of Chaoshan origin and is commonly served in the Chaoshan region of China and countries with a significant Chaoshan Chinese immigrant population such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand." To date, this simple Teochew noodle dish has strong roots in the Chaoshan region of China, but through time, it has since established itself as one of the staple dishes in Singapore with its blend of sambal chilli and choice ingredients. #sgheritagefood #teochew #fishball #noodles
