Celebrating women, in general, needs to happen more often. As a minority in tech and for those taking on the industry, forging a path for future generations, the celebration needs to happen even more.
According to an article by Forbes, 72 percent of women in tech said they were regularly outnumbered 2-1 by male counterparts, and that “bluntly, women in tech face an uphill battle against a pervasive ‘bro culture’ manifesting in a range of ways... such as being regularly interrupted by male colleagues, having their ideas dismissed or undervalued.”
I see a lot of women come into the field, already the minority, not wanting to be pushed farther down into secondary roles. So, they’re afraid to ask questions. From a leadership perspective, not just women (but especially women) need to be willing to be wrong and ask as many questions as they need.
There are already women in tech we can celebrate today, but there should be more! So, together, let’s share our experience and be the mentors to encourage more women leaders in our field.
If you’re looking for a great resource to grow, or give back, the Alliance of Channel Women (ACW) is the perfect place. ACW provides both leadership opportunities and support from other women in the telecom and sales channel fields.
One last bit of advice, always look for opportunities to teach what you know to others. When you can teach what you know, you’ve really learned it!
