Kīlauea, a highly active shield volcano in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, is one of Earth's most active volcanoes. Its frequent eruptions, often from its summit caldera (containing Halemaʻumaʻu crater) or its rift zones, have produced extensive lava flows. Considered the home of the fire goddess Pele in Hawaiian mythology, Kīlauea is a significant cultural and geological landmark, attracting many visitors despite its ongoing activity. Recent eruptions include a September 2023 event and the 2020-2021 eruption that replaced a water lake with a lava lake in Halemaʻumaʻu.

Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. For those who haven't been, it's breathtaking. But why it is breathtaking is breathtaking for another reason... The whole dang area–the whole dang planet, for that matter–is volcanic. Did you know that the land the Irish stand on was once near the South Pole? The surface of the Earth is made up of plates, like the armor on a Pangolin or Armadillo. Because they swim on thousands of miles of turbulent, tumultuous magma, they swim around and smash into each other. Ireland has swum vast distances to arrive where it is today–off the coast of Slovakia. This turmoil also caused the major volcanic eruptions that formed the Giant's Causeway, which explain why these bays (below and in comments) look like craters. They also explain the 40,000 basalt pillars growing here with an almost man-made, computer-generated precision, but that is a story for another time... What I'll never understand is those atheists who see no evidence of superhuman forces acting upon this world. What are they seeing that I'm not? Or vice versa? #NatureFirst #NatureRules
