Love this explaination of the namesake of Wever & Ducre: This is us THE PRONOUNCIATION OF WEVER & DUCRÉ Every story has to have a beginning. Ours begins in the early eighties, when a handful of young Belgians decide to start a new lighting company. So far, so good. Yet what name should the company be given? Since several official languages are spoken in Belgium - including Flemish and French - there was only one choice: The name would need to be equally at home in both worlds, phonetically. Then, by chance, a document fell into the hands of the company's founders: a little guide to a successful life. His advice: Hard work (“WERklust”), trust (“VERtrouwen”) and enthusiasm (“ENthousiasm”), but also courage (“DUrf”) and a good dose of creativity (“CREativiteit”). Today, these five points still constitute our company philosophy. Light Establishment are proud to represent this Belgium Lighting Company with a world-wide focus. https://lnkd.in/dMy5rDMV

Looking back to the very beginning of this project, we hosted a chocolate workshop with our client, collaborating with their users to create handmade chocolates. This experience deepened our understanding of their brand and inspired us in shaping the brand image of co.at. Glad to see the packaging design has recently won the MUSE Design Awards. We truly appreciate the client’s active engagement throughout the project. Curious about the journey of co.at? Great and beautiful opening the first show in the new location at District U in Vlaardingen. Thanks for everone who attended and created this fantastic #atmosphere. The joy of art. The first exhibition of Neck of the Woods gallery / artspace will open on September 14, 2024 at 3:00 PM in its new location at District U, Vlaardingen. After more than 7 years, Neck of the Woods is moving from Rotterdam to unknown territory: the old Unilever tennis courts in District U, Vlaardingen. The still culturally undeveloped city has all the potential and Neck of the Woods wants to be a leader in its development. Over the next 4 years we will organize many exhibitions with local, national and international artists. The tennis courts should become an Art Hive with work spaces. By organizing monthly and weekly events, we want to play a catalytic role for the city and strengthen connections between the supporters of Neck of the Woods and the cultural support of Vlaardingen. Moving into or exploring unknown territory is also what many artists do, coming up with new concepts or an evolution of existing work. Investigating possible new images of the subject or theme that are the artist's signature. A potential new visual language to visualize your own observations and thoughts. The excitement of treading unknown paths and not yet knowing whether it will work, the curiosity about possibilities and the experiment. If art is anything, it is an act of freedom, the freedom to move, think and do.

🪞Mirror, Mirror: who do you see? 1. Mirrors show our literal reflection. • They capture our image • They don’t capture our essence 2. Others see our full spectrum. • They observe our actions • They recognize our contributions 3. Perception shapes reality. • Self-view impacts our confidence. • Others’ views create our reputation. Today at Moco Museum in Barcelona, the countless reflections sparked a thought: our professional image, too, is multifaceted and ever-changing, influenced by interactions and achievements, much like the dynamic interplay of light and reflections in this artwork. This space is a metaphor for the multitude of ways we are viewed by our peers. It’s a reminder that, while we may try to control our image, our reputation is ultimately a collective mirage created by others’ perceptions. ➡️ Reflect on your image. Does it mirror your ambition? PS. How would you like to be perceived professionally? Comment with one word! #CareerReflection #ProfessionalGrowth #MocoMuseum

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday looking at furry rockets, giant glittery mushrooms and shot Chanel handbags. It's not what I usually do on Tuesday afternoons, but I had signed up for the Kunsthal Rotterdam's "art buddies" initiative, where they match you with someone you've never met to look at art together. Five wonderful things happened: => I made a new friend => We had wildly different reactions to the art (me: please, no gold! her: give me gold! give me glitter! give me neon! this is the best!!!) => I got to look at things through her eyes => I got to verbalise my own experience and explain it to someone with a different background => We found a lot of common ground It got me out of my bubble in a very gentle, non-polarising, dare I say 'glittery' way. And I wish much more of this for all of us. Go play with someone you've never met before. If you work for a large organization, you can even make this a regular activity. And if not: there's parks, museums, cafe's, train stations - so many places to play. Arrange for a date with someone you don't yet know this month, and get out of your bubble. We need more connection and less polarisation. P.S. If you have other creative ideas for hanging out with people you've never met, do share them in the comments. INVISIBLE INTENTIONS: IN THE DEPARTURE LIES THE DREAM: There is a strong poetic in ‘departures’. Departures link with ‘orginations’ in the many senses of that word. ‘Points of departure’, for instance, suggest places (physical or not) from which people, things, trains of thought spring up, and start to move. Departures are the commencement of something. They are the moments in which a past (of necessity, desire, planning) meets a potential future (of objectives, destinations, goals). Something is about to begin…. This week saw two #LiquidBecomings departures. After months of anticipation, preparation and first imagination of this major project for Agora Now in 2024, and which is our third Agora Now 'nomadic' space, on August 27, we saw the departure of the MS-Fusion, from Baja (southern Hungary). On board: a crew excited to discover and interact with the stories and histories of the Danube. A few days later, on 31 August, the boat FLOW left the banks of the Vistula in Warsaw, to engage once more in a ritual – already well established – between this vessel and the river. Only this time, the journey forms part of a larger context, and is woven into a wider ecosystem. Read on below. Follow daily words from the artist crews on the Danube + Vistula rivers (soon to come the Rhine and Tagus) alongside more in depth blogs and podcasts #artists #rivers #liquidbecomings #theeuropeanpavilion European Cultural Foundation #residencies #citizens #civicengagement Godelieve Van Heteren Ana Paula Teixeira Álvares https://lnkd.in/gX_FzYY7
